Lainey's P.O.V.

"Well, glad to see some people are enjoying this plague." The stranger says blankly from behind us.

I can see Conner tense up and Laken even cringes a bit. We all turn simultaneously towards the stranger and stay in silence. I look up at Conner and am shocked when I see anger in his eyes. I look at Laken as she steps forward.

"Who are you." she asks, lifting her chin slightly.

"Carl Grimes." he replies, looking up at her with squinted eyes.

"Why are you here, Carl?" she continues, starring down at him.

"I need supplies and ammo." he says blankly.

Laken raises her eyebrows taking another step closer, "That's why you almost killed me? That's the ONLY reason you have to be here threatening us?"

He says nothing, just nods his head once.

"We're going to let you go." Laken states casually as if it's the most ordinary thing she's ever said.

I almost lose my balance. What the hell is she talking about? We ain't letting him go 'til we find out what he's really doing here. I look over at Conner and realize he's just as shocked as I am. He says exactly what I was thinking.

"What the hell are you talking about Laken? We are NOT letting him go yet." Conner spits out, grabbing her arm.

She jerks her arm away from him and glares at him, "Yes we are. Because he's going to lead us to his group."

His head whips up and his wide blue eyes go from me to Conner to Laken, "NO!"

Conner visibly relaxes and turns to Laken, "Good Plan Laken."

Carl struggles against his restraints furiously, "LET ME GO!!"

"We will," she says calmly, "as soon as you agree to lead us to your group."

"No." he says shortly.

"Look Carl. I don't think you have many choices in this particular matter." I pipe in.

"Will you hurt any of them?" He asks, defeated.

"We won't resort to violence unless they show us hostility." I reply.

"Fine. I'll lead you to my group." He says, "Now let me go."

Conner begins to untie Carl from the tree he's tied to. Just as the rope is loose enough, Carl pounces. He jumps up and shoves me and Laken aside, causing me to topple over. But Laken keeps her balance, tackling Carl to the ground as she presses his face into the dirt.

"Move an inch. I fucking dare you." She growls through gritted teeth.

Carl cringes as she digs her nails into the side of his face, "Okay. Okay."

Conner finally unfreezes and drags Laken off Carl. He picks Carl up to his feet and ties his hands behind his back tightly. Laken pokes him in the chest with the gleaming tip of her arrow threateningly.

"If you try another stunt like that, this is going through your heart." She says angrily.

He nods his head quickly and looks at me with sorrowful eyes. I cast my eyes away and cross my arms. I stand a few yards away, watching as Conner forcefully pulls Carl towards the place where I dread. We had already packed up camp so I just grab our bags and follow Conner, Carl, and Laken as we enter the godawful place where our journey begins.
