It's been about 3 weeks since I joined the group. I think this has been the most successful three weeks I've had since hell broke loose. I haven't worried about going hungry, nor have I worried about someone (or something) killing me in my sleep. Shannon and Mike have helped me learn my way around camp. I've already learned the ropes and all that jazz. I've even got a position on the hunting team, also known as The Elite, which is a small group of people (mostly men) that go hunt for meat when we need it the most. They saw me take down a walker near the front entrance and immediately recruited me. Tommy's on it, also; which I find hilarious because he couldn't even hurt a fly if he tried.
Tonight's my first assignment for The Elite and I am PUMPED. I haven't done much since I got here, so it's a relief to actually get to do something. Tommy and I are going scouting tonight around the base to make sure the fence has no holes. Nothing too big, it's a fairly important job. Me and Tommy prep all day for it and neither of us can contain our excitement for the whole ordeal. We laugh and mess around all day. When it hits 11:00 exactly, Tommy and I gear up for the night. It's just me and him tonight. Focus, Lainey, FOCUS. At 11:35 we head out.
As we head out of the outer fence, we wish each other good luck. I go towards the South Western part of the fence while Tommy goes for the North Eastern part. I have my pistol in my hand and my hunting dagger in the other. I creep inconspicuously along the edge of the fence, shining my flashlight along it. I don't spot any holes, but an innumerable amount of cracks or crevices in it. I bite my lip, pondering if i should patch those up or just leave them. I decide to patch them up just to cautious. So I go to work using the superglue we found in a supplies closest and the neon pink duct tape we found also. I laugh as I see the neon pink pierce through the night air.
"Totally can't see that." I say to myself, laughing a bit more. I go along the wall, patching up all the cracks and crevices for a couple more minutes.
After i finish patching up, I start heading towards Tommy's side. Unfortunately, before i can even take a step, i hear a raspy scream. I break into a run shouting for Tommy.
"TOMMY," I don't stop running until I get to the scene.
What I see is not what I expected. Instead of Tommy getting attacked by a walker, I see another guy getting attacked by Tommy. Tommy looks up at me for a split second and the guy took that split second to escape and pick up his double-sided axe that I'm guessing he dropped in the struggle. He stalks towards Tommy and raises the axe above his head.
I grab my pistol and aim at his head, "Take another step and I will blow your fucking head off."
He freezes and looks at me for the first time. The light from my flashlight casts shadows across his face which makes him look even more mysterious than he already did.
"Drop the axe, pretty boy." I say menacingly as I nudge him with the barrel of my pistol. He raises an eyebrow and stares at me as he places his axe on the ground cautiously.
"Who are you and what are you doing attacking Tommy?" I ask, putting the hand not holding my pistol on my hip.
His chocolate-brown eyes bore into mine as he smiles lopsidedly at me,
"I'm Conner."
Hey Guys!!!!
I'm so sorry i haven't been updating. I have had a major case of writer's block. But thank my amazing boyfriend Conner for helping me get over it. Love y'all. <3
