"Alright. I'll place you on a team with new recruits, I'll get someone else to lead your team." Erwin said, plotting and planning for the next expedition. It was written on his face that he was stressed. Ivel sat on a chair at the side of the room, listening to Erwin's plans as usual. Levi was there as well. The two twins listened to his planning without a single comment. The just went along with the flow. They knew Erwin had a better mind than they do, they were in no position to change his plans.
After assigning teams and revising he formation through and through, Erwin gathered everyone to announce their formation and teams.
"Captain! Why aren't we in our usual teams?" Ivel's team mates approached him, asking after everyone was dismissed.
"It's Erwin's decision." Was all Ivel replied with before heaing off. He didn't like working with a new team either. He enjoyed the team he had, they obey his instructions and they don't rush to their death. He had absolutley no idea what his new team was like. But he didn't complain, he quietly followed Erwin back into Erwin's office.
"Honestly Erwin. What are you planning this time?" Ivel narrowed his eyes, suspiciously questioning Erwin. It was rare that Ivel would question Erwin. He always just went with the flow because he'd have an idea on what was going on but this time, he was blank.
"Remember Sawney and Bean? I'm trying to draw that person out." Erwin answered with a simple and vague answer.
"By using Eren as bait? On an expedition? I am clearly not a suspect Erwin. Just tell me everything already. Why the hell would I want anything to do with that brat. I've been living and fighting for only one sake and I think you know clear enough what that is." Ivel said, sitting down on his usual seat, crossing his arms. He looked at Erwin with a serious face.
"When Wall Maria was breached, two titans appeared. The Colossal and the Armored. However, during the attack on Trost, only the Colossal Titan appeared. What was different at Trost that wasnt at Shiganshina? Eren. The Armored Titan didnt reveal itself at Trost after Eren transformed, so Eren was the reason the Armored Titan didnt appear, which means they are intelligent and whatever their goals before hand were, Eren was not part of their goal. After the death of Sawney and Bean, I was able to narrow down the list of suspects, as only a soldier was able to kill the titans with 3DMG. Because of this, I went around asking cryptic questions to try to weed out liars and traitors. make people second guess themselves. Then comes the night of the ceremony where the cadets join the Survey Corp. That night, I instructed Levi to take Eren out on a ride to recon the area. By having Eren leave and the ceremony on the same night, I could deduct that if the enemy did not attack Eren or at least show up to the castle to kidnap him when it would have been strategically best to do so, then it must mean that they were otherwise preoccupied somewhere else. Where else? The ceremony. If someone was missing from the ceremony, it would be suspicious and draw attention to them. So this narrowed down the suspects to the 104th Trainee Corp. Due to this knowledge, I purposefully told all the cadets, even the ones who werent joining the Survey Corp, the plan and the exit and where we were going. By doing this, I should able to draw the enemy out and lead them directly into a trap." Erwin spit out all at once before giving out a sigh.
"You and your complicated shit." Ivel complained, standing up from his seat. "I'm going to go get another check-up before we leave. You need me if we're going to do this. We don't need me staying back on another expedition."
"But you staying back the last time helped save a few people's lives." Erwin joked. It was true though. A few more people could have died if it weren't for Ivel during the Struggle of Trost.
"Shit." Ivel grunted, trying to twist his ankle. But it was stuck, again. It pained him too much to get it working manually so he had to visit the doctor.
"Ugh. Erwin, I'm afraid I'll have to stay out of this expedition. It's my ankle again. I won't make it." Ivel said to Erwin who was sitting on his table, revising the strategy over and over again.
"Do you need me to send you to the doctor?" Erwin asked in concern of his condition. They were already ready to leave for the expedition.
Ivel shook his head as he limped off to the doctor on his own. It wasn't the first time this happened. His ankle was the only part of his body that gets in the way time and time again.
The survey corps were setting off for another expedition later early morning. But knowing his ankle, he won't be able to join them as it wouldn't be healed fast enough.
"Levi! What can I do for you today?" The doctor said, without looking up from the paper he was reading.
"Get it right. It's Ivel." Ivel dropped himself onto a chair, tired from making his way here. His ankle was a really big problem.
"Oh, my apologies. Is it your ankle again?" The doctor looked up from his paper, doing a few check-ups on Ivel's ankle.
Ivel nodded, annoyance written on his face. He hated it when this happens. It made him weak, useless and a brat.
The doctor did his job. He was good at it. He did some rotations, placed some medicines before wrapping it in bandages. It would still hurt after but it would be able to function again and it would be healed really quickly. But he still wouldn't make it for the expedition.
To his surprise he found people evacuating the place. Using his 3DMG He forced himself up the roof to get a good look at what was happening.
Titans. There was a hole in the wall, allowing titans to enter. Soldiers were being dispatched from above the wall.
"This timing is just shit." He cursed, re-entering the Doctor's to get him to evacuate. Then he went off, to slay the titans at the front. He was forcing himself, he was aware but he couldn't just let people die because he couldn't fight.
The abnormals and taller ones were all taken care of by him while he left the rest to the other soldiers. He made his way to check on what was making the evacuation so slow. They were on the edge of keeping the titans back.
That was when he saw the cart blocking off the evacuation route. He was about to explode of anger but then he saw a girl. He watched her actions. She was absolutely good, she knows what she was doing. She got the man to remove the cart, continuing the evacuation.
That was the last of the people who needed to evacuate. The rest were the soldiers. Ivel, jumped from building to building, notifying soldiers to retreat. He was doing his best in ignoring the pain at his ankle. But he couldn't keep up anymore, he had to retreat along with them. He tried convincing himself that he did his best. When he told Erwin about it, Erwin told him it was a real heroic thing he did and it wasn't his fault that his ankle wasn't cooperating.
But this time, he wasn't going to let his ankle get in the way of his going for another expedition. This one was important. He just had to go.
