A Third Of A Pie

Chapter 21

Then, he heard footsteps on the stairs.

"Sir! Down here! Now!" Toast called, swift to realise Ghost's absence.
Immediately, the steps halted, before begrudgingly dragging back down.
He met Ghost's eyes, seeing a look of guilt, fear and confusion in the light brown pools of melted chocolate.

Toast suddenly felt all frustration fade. He couldn't stay mad at him.
"... I'm sorry, sir..." he started, "... I just.... don't want you getting hurt..."

Ghost nodded, sitting down.
Toast finished the drinks before bringing them through, sitting down next to Ghost- who noticeably twitched.
Toast sighed, leaning back and drinking his own, "the doctor recommended you rest..."

"But-"

"Sir," Toast interrupted, not in the mood to convince his boss.
Ghost yelped before quickly rushing upstairs, taking his drink with him.

The Brit felt a pang of guilt strike him, sighing and biting his lip.
Tea wasn't gonna cut it.

As quietly as he could, he got up, approaching the kitchen and reopening the medical cabinet.
Reaching in the back, he pulled out a small, silver flask.
With little to no hesitation, he threw it back, cringing a bit as the strong, cold fluid splashed against the back of his throat.

Biting his lip anxiously, he placed it back in- hiding it behind the medication- and pulled out a large bottle.
He knew what it was.

He popped the cap off before taking a heavy swig.
And another.
And another...
...and another...

Sitting down at the counter, he gulped another large amount down, already feeling more tired.

Lacking co-ordination and this point, he knocked over his tea, not even caring as salty fluids stained his cheeks.
He took another swig, before slamming his face in his arm, body jerking with every sob.

It was those sobs that ended up lulling both him and Ghost to sleep.
