Just because of the way he said it, because of the way his face looked when he said: "open it," I knew it was bad. I flipped open the flap and pulled out the piece of paper. It was folded three times. I hesitantly began unfolding it. "Just tell me what it says, Finn." He didn't say anything. I began reading. The next thing I knew water was surfacing my eyes. I knew what it was going to say, before I even opened it. Allen began crying too. I stood up and picked him out of the basinet and cradled him. Finn was crying, too, but he was trying to hide it. "Shhh, I know, it's okay," I whispered to Allen. I kissed him on the cheek and squeezed him as I sat back on the edge of the bed, next to Finn. I put my head on Finn's shoulder. I was still holding our four month old in my hand. "I don't want you to go," I sad softly. "I don't want to go," Finn said as he put his hand on Allen's head and kissed mine. "But I have to go."
