Violet sighed as she gazed at the lake on the riverbank watching as small waves rippled upon the tranquil water, far away from the rest if the picnic when she felt a presence settle down next to her.

"That Stephano's a real...Interesting individual," The person said after a small beat of silence.

Violet grimaced slightly as she glanced at Gilbert, silently agreeing with him.

"He is rather something," Violet said, shifting uncomfortably at the mention of 'Stephano'.

"And he's really living with you?" The dark haired boy asked.

"Well, that is what assistants do," Violet said, smiling slightly teasingly at Gilbert - who chuckled slightly, shaking his head as he did so.

"When am I ever going to learn?" Gilbert asked, a bemused smile playing on his lips.

"I don't know, you tell me," Violet jokingly smiled back.

The two stared out at the lake as they sat in silence peacefully for a little while.

This made Violet smile to herself, making her forget about her troubles. The spyglass. The unanswered questions. Count Olaf. Well, almost anyway.

"It's peaceful here," Violet commented, quietly.

"Yes, it is, I guess," Gilbert said back.

"It almost makes you forget about everything," The eldest Baudelaire mumbled to herself, hoping the boy next to her wouldn't hear her. But he did.

"What?" Gilbert asked, looking down at her.

"Nothing," Violet said, rapidly shaking her head.

"Violet," Gilbert said softly, making the girl look up at him, "What is it that you want to forget about?" He asked her.

Violet set her gaze back on the lake, fiddling with the ribbon in her hand.

"The curiosity that burns like the fire in my mind," She mumbled.

"Poetic," Gilbert commented, "You're starting to sound like Anne," He chuckled.

"I don't think that's such a bad thing," Violet told him, "In a way, we could all be a little bit like Anne. Maybe that wouldn't make the world such a sorrowful and treacherous place,"

Gilbert smiled softly at the girl, taking her hand in his, making both Violet and Gilbert's heart rate increase a little, a slight blush appearing on the two's cheeks.

"I'm here for you Violet," The hazel eyed boy told her, smiling a little, "Always,"
