Katniss' POV
As I start walking to school, I know today will be hard. Peeta and Finnick are two of the hottest guys in school.
Peeta's POV
I REALLY want to date Katniss Everdeen. I just wonder if she wants to date me. Probably not. I don't deserve her. She's to pretty, and smart, and deserves so much more than me. In fact, I'll bet I could live a hundred lifetimes and never deserve her. I just can't help but wonder if she likes me back , it's a really slim chance though. It's just so freaking hard to get her out of my mind, her dark wavy hair, her sparkly grey eyes, her tan olive skin. She's beautiful. No. She is as radiant as the sun.
As I walk down the stairs, I hear my mother's voice, oh God! She isn't supposed to be here. Should I climb out the window. No. It's the second story. I'd get really hurt. Maybe I should just make a mad dash for the front door. I take a deep breath and jump down the remaining stairs and quickly regain my balance. I start running but what do you know? Of course I forgot to tie my shoelaces. If all face first onto the carpet, it's soft so I won't have a bruise, yet. Of course, I haven't faced my mom yet so...
"Clumsy, lazy, worthless piece of garbage. You were a mistake!"
She doesn't have a rolling pin with her, that's the only good news.
"Mom! I have to get to school!" I say getting up and run I g out the door.
"Get back here you........."
I can't hear the rest of what she has to say because I'm out the door. I'm glad I didn't hear what she had to say. This is normal just so you know, my mom's always like this. Every little mistake I make, every time I have a friend, every time I do anything, she insults it or them or whatever it is. She hates all of my friends, especially Katniss. I don't know why. She's just a messed up person. But she is my mom. I've considered turning her into the police, but I don't think I can. You see, it sounds so easy until you actually try and do it. I can't turn my mom into the police.
As I am walking down the road, I see a familiar face across the street.
"Katniss?!" I call out to her.
She whips around and I think she smiles. "Hey, Mellark!" She shouts back. She gets ready to cross to my side of the street and I stop at the cross walk and wait for her. As soon as she gets across, she sighs. Is she thinking about yesterday, because I know I am.
"Peeta, what was yesterday?" She asks.
"Monday," I joke. She giggles.
"No, at the bakery," she says.
"Well, let's see, Gale was there and you stood up to him."
"No, I didn't, you gave me the courage," she says shyly.
I grin. "No, you could've done it."
"No! I couldn't've. I'm a weak, ugly, broken girl!" She shouts.
"No, it's okay. You're not ugly, you're beautiful. And you're not broken, just bent. Bad things happen to good people," I sigh.
"I just wanted to thank you," she says, calmer this time.
"Well Katniss, that's what friends do," I say.
"Right," she mumbles.
"You know, you're my super-mega-awesomest-second-best-friend!" I exclaim in a silly voice.
"Second?!" She tries to act hurt.
"Well, you can't expect me just to dump Finnick," I whine.
"I guess not, but then you're my super-mega... Whatever-second-best-friend." I give her a sad face at the word 'second' and pretend to wipe tears off my cheeks. "I can't dump Madge now, can I?" She says laughing and I join in.
I look up and we're at school. Oh boy. God, these snobby girls who try to get me to date them and the ones who have pictures of me in their lockers. Gross.
"You ready, the girls have been dying without you here. They really like you," she says frowning.
"They like the idea of me," I say truthfully.
Katniss' POV
I know that when we walk into the school, the girls will be freaking out and drooling all over him. But do I care? No. Well, maybe a little. Okay. A lot.
Right as we walk through the doors, everyone's attention turns to us. I walk next to him and all the girls send me death glares. Some of the flip their hair and walk swing their hips and some of them just pose dramatically. Seriously? So I'm surprised when Peeta ignores every single one of them. Peeta and I walk down the hallway to see Tigris so Peeta can get his schedule and locker number.
Peeta and I have all the same classes except choir, Peeta has art instead, and his locker is three away from mine. It couldn't have turned out better, unless Peeta's locker was right next to mine. But let's look on the bright side of life.
Also, the group had all remembered Peeta and greeted him with hugs and questions. Lots of questions about how his trip was, what he did, and things like that. They were happy to have their friend back.
<--------------------<<<
During class, every single one except for choir and drama, I sat there bored and super tired, blocking out the teachers voice. I was tired, and just didn't feel like watching all of the girls crawling all over Peeta. It's ridiculous. So Peeta or Madge would just shake me when class was over and I'd just get up and repeat the same thing over and over again. At the end of the day, I was so relieved. Of course, Madge had to ruin that.
"You know we have a science test next week, he handed out the study guide today and said there were no extras, do you have it?"
Oh God. I'm gonna fail my first test. Way to go Katniss. My mom is gonna freak out. But I was just hoping she would see what was really important here:
I was really tired.
Hey, okay I know it might not be good but I will try and make it better. I am working on my writing a lot and any comments or votes from anyone would sure help! Thank you!
