Katniss' POV

"He smokes."

That's it. He was in the house. Maybe he still is. Within a few minutes, Madge and Delly are patting my back, telling me to calm down. I've been trembling. I think. I kind of lost track of what happened.

"Do you want some water?" Glimmer asks coming up beside me. I shake my head.

"Peeta," I choke out. Her eyes widen and she nods. Everyone but Peeta leave room and he walks up to me and opens his arms. I run into them and sob. For once I'm too scared to think about anything else. I just focus on this moment right here. Right now. I focus on him. How the warmth spreads through my body and the fireworks go off the second our bodies touch. And somewhere deep down inside, I smile. On the outside though, I'm just a big mess. My face stained with tears. My eyes a pool of water. My hair a scraggly mess.

I cling onto his shirt with all my muscle, afraid that he could be take from me at any minute. That Gale would hurt him. That he would separate us. That I wouldn't have Peeta anymore.

"Katniss?"

"Hmm?"

"You don't need to be afraid."

"Yes I do I..." He raises a finger to my lips.

"I'll never let you go."

"Peeta," I start.

"No! You don't need to be afraid! You don't have a reason to be. I. Here to protect you." I know he will. This is the boy who has never broken a promise before.

"Thank you so much," I mumble hugging him tighter. I clan myself up before heading into the kitchen with Peeta to see what the others are doing.

"Katniss, we can smell some smoke in here. Not like he's here now, but if you said he smokes, than he was defiantly here," Clove states. I can smell the smoke too.

"So what your saying is?" I ask. I don't see what this has to do with anything, we already knew he was here.

"We have some evidence," Marvel says.

"Evidence?"

"For the police," Clove finishes. I nod but then quickly shake my head.

"No! That will just make him angrier!" I scream.

"But Katniss, you can't live like this!" Glimmer shouts. Then all hell breaks loose. This goes on for about ten minutes, us arguing until we hear Peeta shout.

"STOP IT! EVERYONE! We aren't helping her by arguing," he calms down at he last sentence. Boy, he can shout!

"I just think that it's better off if I just leave," I shrug.

"What!"

"No!"

"Wait!"

Finnick does that cool whistle thing where he puts two fingers in his mouth and whatever and it comes out really loud.

"Kitty, first of all, your not leaving. We can protect you, you have to trust us. Second of all, we need to speak one at a time." He takes an apple from a basket on the counter. "This," he says raising it up,"is the talking apple. You can only talk if it is in your hand. Other than that, your lips are sealed. Okay?"

"No!" Clove shouts over everyone. I roll my eyes and some people glare at Cato who tries to look as innocent as can be.

"Nice job Cato!" Finnick says sarcastically, slapping his shoulder. Cato grabs the apple from Finnick.

"Thank you," he says. Finnick takes back he apple.

"You're welcome."

"Guys!" I shout. Finnick and Cato grin and put their hands over their mouths.

"Ooooooohhh! She didn't have the apple!" They say, holding the apple together. Idiots. I march over there, grab the apple, and throw it out the window. I've been very moody lately. I wait for get window to break but it doesn't. That's when I realize, it's already broken.

Just a quick chapter. The next few should be good though. Keep reading! Thank you!!!
