Chapter 1
The sound of the birds chirping and the feeling of the soft summer breeze made my every bone relax. I opened my eyes to the view in front of me and observed my surroundings, the trees were a bright green; they stood tall and strong. The scent of pine began to fill my nostrils and seconds later I smelt water. The water had a pure smell to it, reminding me of days when I was just a kid swimming in any lake, pond, or river I could find. I made my way to the water and it seemed to grow larger and larger with every step I took. I took off my slippers and sat down on the sandy ground, and placed my feet into the water with ease. The coolness sent shivers up my legs but I continued to kick my feet around in the clear blue water; relaxing at the sound of the small waves. I breath in through my nostrils, taking in the smell of nature.
"Dani..." The sound of his deep soothing voice filled my ears and my eyes opened wide.
There he was, standing in the water. He had his signature smile and dug his hands deep into his dark jean pockets. "Noah?" I call out and he walked towards me. With every step he takes my heart skips a beat.
"Dance with me." He said once he reached me, taking his hand out his pocket and holding it out for me to grab.
I shook my head and frowned. "I can't dance on water. I'll drown." I said as I looked away from his magical forest green eyes that haven't seemed to change over the past couple years. Noah slowly brought up his hand and with a gentle stroke on my cheek he brought it down to my chin and guided my head up to look at his face, he smiled.
"As long as I'm here you will not drowned. Just hold on." He said as he grabbed my hands and helped me stand up. I looked down to see that my feet have gotten lifted up from out the water and soon I was standing and holding onto Noah for dear life. "Come on..." He said as he slowly started to walk backwards, pulling me with him.
We got to the middle of the lake and held onto each other and I took this time to remember every detail on Noah's perfect face. He still had that scar at the left side of his head, small but still visible. His eyebrows became bushier and darker making him appear older. His lips were a light shade of pink and seemed to give Noah a kind and loving look to him. His strong jaw structure gave him the look of a male model plastered all over New York City Time Square. His hair was a honey brown that had specks of blonde here and there. There was a part of me that wanted to run my hand through his soft hair but I was scared if I reached for it that I would feel nothing.
I placed my hand on his cheek and caressed it with ease, scared that if I touch him to hard my hand will slip trough him. The feeling on his skin on my made my body heat up, making this cool summers day hotter. We started to move side to side, dancing to the sound of the water and an unknown humming of a song playing in the background. The dance was simple, something anyone could do but it had meaning to it. It had a power that was making my knees go weak and my heart race. Noah's eyes traveled across my face and he smiled, "Did you miss me, Daniela?" He asked and I nodded my head.
"Every day." I admitted, not willing to lie to him about my feelings; why lie about the truth? "Have you missed me?" I asked as we locked eyes. Noah smiled at me and was about to speak when he disappeared making me drop right into the water.
I swam back up to get a gasp of breath and looked around to try and find Noah but he was nowhere around, he disappeared just like a ghost. My legs started to give out and I got dragged down by something into the water, which started to turn ice cold. The water was so cold that it felt like I was being stabbed by little tiny swords, but then it all stopped-
"Always," I heard his voice as I was going down. The voice that brought music to my ears; music that I cannot hear. Drowning wasn't what I thought it would be like. I could breath but I couldn't move nor blink it was just pulling me down, down, down and farther down into the deep darkness of this beautiful lake that seemed to have a everlasting deepness.
"Dani." I heard him call once last time before I closed my eyes.
"DANIELA!" I heard someone shout and I shot out of bed, my heart pacing and I could feel the sweat travel down my forehead. I began to wheeze until I tried to remember the voice that called my name.
"Noah?" I whisper and then hear a chuckle.
"You wish, huh?" The voice said again so I looked over to see Mike standing at the edge of my bed with a smile so big it almost covered all of his perfect face.
"Mikey?" I say, not believing this. Maybe this is a dream too.
"Hey, Dani. I'm home." He said and I smiled, jumping out of bed and into his big arms.
"Oh, god..." I cried as I held onto him as tight as my long, skinny arms can, taking a long inhale of his aroma. "I never thought I would be seeing you again." I admitted and Mike tightening his grip around me.
"Me neither." He whispered and we stood there and all that we heard was the whimpers of our soft cries of joy. Mike pulled away and smiled down at me, "Let's do something tonight, just you and me." He suggested and I nodded my head, wanting to desperately do something.
"Yes, yes, yes. A-million times yes!" I sang as we hugged again. We let go and started to talk about nonsense as we walked out the room.
"And she's awakes." Tom said as I entered the kitchen with Mike right behind me. I give him a kittenish glare and he kisses my cheek. "Good morning." He whispers in my ear and I smile at him.
"Great morning you mean, Mike is back!" I said as I smiled over to Mike who was eating a pop-tart like he hasn't eaten one in years. "No pop-tarts at the force?" I asked and he frowns.
"Sadly, you should have sent some for me and the guys." He said and I rolled my eyes.
"Yeah, let me just send over thousands of boxes to the military." I joked and Mike smiled then continued to eat. "Mike and I are going to hang out tonight." I told Tom and he nodded his head.
"Alright, I'm working late anyways. Stay safe." He said as he kissed my cheek again before hurrying to the door, closing it and leaving us alone.
Mike looked over to me and smiled, "We need to talk."
"About what?" I asked as I poured some water into a glass cup.
"Don't play dumb, Dani." Mike said and I turned around and smiled innocently.
"I don't know what you're talking about." I said, shaking my head lightly.
Mike glared at me and I tried to keep the innocent smile on my face but it quickly dropped when he said, "I know you know."
"Nope," I said before taking a long sip of the ice cold water. My throat was drying up and I am glad I got water before he spoke.
"We need to talk about Noah."
