The water rushed past Evan as he propelled himself forward at faster speeds then he has ever gone before. He could feel the muscle in his tail straining for a break but refused to stop or even slow down. He wasn't sure how long he had been swimming but he was positive he was very far away from his shoal. If he survived this he was going to kill Jared himself, the this being the mako shark he was currently swimming away from.
He could feel the shark on the tip of his tail, literally. Mako sharks are some of the fastest sharks out there and Evan doubted he could out swim it. Evan's energy was starting to wear off and he could feel his body trying to slow down. He willed himself to keep going but he was feeling such exhaustion from this much exercise.
His alter in speed was all the shark needed to attack. He felt pain erupt from his side as the shark dug into his tail. His eyes widened in realization as to what the shark was trying to do. It was going to rip his tail off so that he couldn't flee.
With all the energy he could muster up he twisted his body so he was facing the shark. He wildly started clawing at the shark hoping to do any damage to it. Evan was normally a peaceful person and hated violence but right now he was just letting his natural instincts take over. Evan could've cried when he saw blood start to come out of the shark.
Evan had struck the sharks eye. Blood surrounded both of them in a red cloud of death. The shark released him from its deathly grip and Evan didn't hesitate to get as far away as possible while he still had the chance. He didn't know where he could go, with all of the blood coming out of him that shark would be able to track him in minutes. It was probably already tracking him he realized, he needed a plan and fast.
As he kept going, swimming purely on adrenaline he took a look around him and saw he was near the shore. He started to freak out even more, he wasn't aloud to be this close to land, humans were on land! It looks like his decision was made when he saw the shark approaching him at alarming speeds, blood trailing behind it. He swam as fast as he could to the shore knowing it was his only hope of surviving.
He kept going until he could feel the sand underneath his tail reminding him just how close to land he was. Thankfully the shark didn't come any closer to him too scared of getting stuck on the beach. Evan blessed all the gods that it was nighttime so no humans should be on the beach.
Slowly he dragged himself more onto the sand wincing when sand got into his open wound. He laid on the sand leaving his tail in the water appreciating the cold water against his burning injury. Now that the adrenaline had worn off he could feel the pain pulsing out of his side. He hadn't gotten a good look at it yet but considering how much blood he was losing it was bound to be bad. He took a couple deep breaths and willed himself to look at his tail.
Evan felt his stomach contracting and soon he was emptying the contents of his stomach onto the sandy floor. The part of his tail that got bit was ripped to shreds, mangled. Some of his baby blue scales were missing and he could see inside his body it was torn so badly. He pressed his webbed hands against the wound trying to stop the bleeding as much as he could.
Evan was too busy trying not to hyperventilate that he didn't hear the footsteps approaching him. He jolted when someone sat down next to him and his brain started swimming in a panic to calm him down. A human was sitting next to him! He was going to die tonight, Evan knew that much for a fact, even if he managed to get back into the water the shark would surely kill him.
Evan didn't dare move he just kept his hands pressed on the wound, maybe the human hadn't seen his tail he tried to convince himself. He doesn't know how long he stayed in that position but he realised the human hadn't moved from where he sat. He slowly turned his head to look at the human and saw he was just sitting there looking out onto the water his face expressionless.
