I walked into the familiar bakery and immediately the smell of fresh baked goods filled my senses with delight. I scanned the building and my eyes quickly fell onto the short baker who was in the process of pulling some fresh bread straight out of the extremely tall and narrow oven hat laid in the corner of the building.

I cleared my throat to alert the baker of my presence but it seemed to only startle him seeing as how he looked to have jumped out of his skin and nearly dropped the peel he was holding in his hands. I swiftly made my way over to him ready to catch the peel in case he was to drop it, "Careful there, don't want to drop it", I sent him a wink and smirked at him.

"C-Connor you're here earlier t-than usual", it was true I usually did come to visit him later in the day but my parents have just been getting stricter about me staying in the damn castle. So naturally I snuck out of there as soon as the opportunity presented itself but of course, Evan couldn't know that because Evan didn't know that I was the prince.

So instead I just shrugged my shoulders, "I came to see if you needed any help setting up". Okay so maybe the thought of seeing Evan drove me to find a way out of the castle sooner but that's unimportant.

I watched as he made his way to one of the counters in the store and started to put the bread into baskets that were already sitting on top of the counter. He put the peel back and brushed his hands off on the apron he wore as he seemed to think over my offer.

"You mean like l-last time", Okay so I may have been more of a distraction than actual help last time I tried to assist. I gave a sheepish grin and rubbed my hand on the back of my neck, the floor suddenly seemed to look interesting, "That's what I t-thought". I looked back up at him to see he was smiling and me to show he wasn't actually mad at me and I couldn't help to smile back at him.

It had been nearly a week since I had last seen Evan when I had got home from his bakery my dad immediately took to questioning me about where I had been all day. He went on to talk about how I needed to act more like a prince and blah blah blah, I've heard this lecture so many times I could recite it myself.

Though the next thing he said undoubtedly made me start paying attention again, "Wait, wait, wait, what did you just say?" Admittedly I had just heard him wrong.

He seemed to be displeased by having to repeat himself but did so anyway, "We are going to be hosting a ball to find you a wife".

"Thunderation!"

"Now Connor were doing this for your own good", My mother sounded like she was convincing herself more than me.

"I don't need a wife!"

I tried to protest but I was immediately shot down by my father as he matched my volume and bellowed, "We are having this ball and you are going to it!"

Since that day I had been on constant watch by the guards to make sure I didn't leave the castle. Which meant I was unable to go see Evan at his bakery, I wonder why he thinks I haven't stopped by to visit him.

The ball was quickly approaching and I was dreading every minute of it until a thought crossed my mind, If I couldn't go see Evan than I would get Evan to come to the ball. I grinned sneakily as I made my way over to the desk in the corner of my bedroom and grabbed my quill and ink out and started writing.

I grinned when I had finished and quickly sealed up the letter with a royal stamp that showed my family's crest in it. I exited my room and sure enough to guards were outside my door, I handed one of them the letter, "See that this letter gets delivered".

He nods his head in confirmation and replies, "Yes sir". I wait to watch as he walks down the hallway before turning and going back into my room a smile creeping onto my face as I think about my plan.

The day of the ball finally comes and I can feel my nerves spark through the roof, I find myself wondering if this is what Evan feels every day because this is terrible. I had already been manhandled into a crisp suit earlier today so now my sister and I were just waiting around to be announced so that we could actually enter the ball.

Finally one of the butlers came into the room we were in and led us out to where the party was happening. The minute we stepped into view everyone started to bow as the butler gave us a proper introduction as the prince and princess of this kingdom.

After that people started to come up to us asking for a dance, currently I was dancing with a brunette whose name I couldn't remember. I was continually looking over the entire room seeing if I could spot Evan among the crowd. I mean there was always the chance he wouldn't even show up, thinking about it, it would be pretty weird to get an invitation to a ball by a prince.

After dancing with what seemed like an endless amount of girls I finally excused myself from the party and walked over to one of the entrances to the garden. There seemed to be someone else already out here by himself, he was sitting on a stone bench and just looking up at the stars.

I decided to try and strike up a conversation with him, "It's pretty crazy in there isn't it?"

The man stood up and turned to look at me and immediately I recognized who it was, "C-Connor?" Evan stumbled out. His eyes raked over my outfit and I could practically see the gears turning in his head, "You're the prince!"

I couldn't help but laugh, "Surprise?" I tried. He just stared at me in what could only be described as shock, "I honestly didn't think you would come tonight" I told him.

"I-I wasn't going to but, something changed my mind", He stared into my eyes when he said the last part.

I bit my lip and asked him, "Well since you're here, would you like to dance?" He looked around us nervously as if someone else would just show up. I took his hand in mine, "Don't worry, no one will see us", I reassured him. We both knew what would happen if people saw us, two males, dancing together.

After thinking he was going to say no he finally nodded his head and a small smile appeared on his face, "I would love to dance".
