On the day of the performance, almost no one was looking forward to going onstage. Everyone's voices were tired and we didn't want to go through this anymore. I have no idea if they were going to pick another core member for next year. The current heads of the core were graduating this year. So next year, my batch would be in charge. Maybe they needed more people because they were all leaving. I don't know if I still have a chance but even though I HATE this skit, I need to push through and show them that I'll put up with anything. This was the last performance of the year. If they were going to announce another core member it's probably gonna be after this. So I need to push as hard as I can.
We make our way on stage and it was a trainwreck. The microphones made the loud feedback sound. All of the hours of making us practice has taken a toll on our voices and our stomps. Having this huge group of people in front of us made us even more embarrassed that were performing this for people. I know I couldn't speak for Kate but it was horrible. After the performance, the core did their customary "good job". By this time, I knew it didn't mean anything. I just slumped back into my seat and watched the other performances.
Finally, it was time for the core performance. They did pretty well knowing that they didn't have rushed practice and had the simplest thing to do. Why did they get the easy routine? Why did they get the better performance to do? I didn't even hear from them about what happened to the lobby event. Apparently I went well, but what happened? Do they always give themselves the best skits and give the lack-luster ones to us? Their clique of "great actors" and even better fakers? Once you're in the core, you instantly become friends with the older batches because of the time you spend collaborating with them. If you're not in the core, no matter what you do to get to know them, you'll always be shut out in favor of those in the "special group".
