Chapter 22

Mackenzie's POV
I woke up today a little early, hoping to get ready and go on a run before my mom woke up. I smile thinking about Johnny and how good these days have been. As soon as I'm about to change my door opens. Fear comes into my eyes as my mom walks in.
"Mackenzie, call Maddie and ask her and your father to come over today" she snaps.
I nod with my head down, hoping she will just leave.
"Do it now!" She says kicking me off my vanity chair and leaving.
I hit my leg pretty hard, as I cry out in pain.
J- hey are you almost ready for our run?
I get up, tears still in my eyes, and limp to my bed.
I start crying hard, knowing that I'll never get away from her and my life won't ever change no matter how perfect some things will be.
Still crying, I come up with an excuse and text Johnny.
K- I'm sorry babe, but I can't go anymore :(
J- why?
K- I have to plan a dinner with my family
J- oh ok well I love you
K- I love you too
I smile still crying hard.
Then I dial brynn's number and wait.
Hello?
"Brynn" I speak crying.
Mackenzie what's wrong?
"Can you just come over I have to plan a dinner and I can't move" I cry.
"Ok I'm on my way, leave your window open"
"Okay" I croak out and hang up.
10 minutes later Brynn crawls through my window and I just sit on my bed crying my eyes out.
Brynn's eyes widen as she sees my leg turning a purple color.
"Holy crap Mackenzie we have to get you to a hospital" she says.
"I can't I have to plan a dinner with my family and I don't have any money" I cry out.
Brynn quickly tries to think of an idea.
"Damn it Mackenzie can you get up?" She says.
I try to get up and successfully stand but then my leg get wobbly and I fall back on the bed.
I put my face in my hands and cry.
"Hey Kenzie it's ok we can fix this" brynn says quietly.
"It's only going to get worse" I whisper.
*time skip*
"Okay tomorrow I'm taking you to see a doctor, and I'll pay for it" She says.
I nod quietly, knowing my mom will more than likely go to a boyfriends house tonight.
"You need to tell the girls" She says.
I shake at the thought of other people knowing my mom beats me.
"Brynn I can't do that" I sigh.
"They are gonna find out" She says pointing to my leg.
I sigh and nod.
"I'm not telling Johnny."
"To hell your not telling Johnny! He's your boyfriend Mackenzie!"
"He can't know that I get beat" I mumble.
"Fine I'll give you time, but your telling Johnny!" She says.
I nod and we talk for a little until she has to go.
"Tell them at the sleepover tonight at Nadia's" she says.
"I'll think about it" I whisper and she gives me a sympathetic look before crawling out the window.
I sigh and dial Maddie's number.
"Hello?"
"Hey Maddie, mom wants you and dad to come over for dinner."
"Okay, um is everything going okay?" She says quietly.
"Besides the fact that my leg is purple" I laugh nervously.
She sighs.
"This is going too far Mackenzie" she say.
"Please just come, it gives me some time away from her and we can talk about it later" I plead.
"Ok we'll be there, please stay safe" she says and hangs up.
I nod and wrap my leg in a bandage. Then I go and  change into a decent outfit: a pink romper with white vans.
I brush my hair and leave it down.
*time skip*
Maddie and dad arrived 10 minutes ago.
Now we are all sitting around waiting for dinner.
When mom comes and serves us, she gives everyone a medium amount and me a tiny sum, which Maddie notices.
"Mom, give Kenzie some more, she looks hungry" Maddie speaks up and my eyes widen.
Mom glares at me before giving me some more food.
Maddie grins and I smile slightly.
The rest of the dinner goes well until I stand up.
"Mackenzie what happened to your leg?!" My dad asks.
I freeze.
"Yeah Mackenzie what happened to your leg?" Maddie says giving me a look.
Mom gives me a dirty look.
"Oh I uh I um fell on the tile."
My dad doesn't seem convinced but drops the subject as I sigh quietly.
