Chapter 23

Mackenzie's POV
As we finish eating dinner, Maddie offers to help with the dishes.
"No that's okay Maddie, Mackenzie will do them" mom says.
"No I insist! I want to help" Maddie says.
My mom rolls her eyes unnoticeably and nods with a fake smile.
As mom and Maddie wash the dishes, my dad and I catch up.
We talk about school, sports, all the normal stuff, but he isn't paying attention to me.
He's paying attention to my leg.
"Yeah and I have a boy-"
"What really happened to your leg?" He interrupts.
I go silent.
"Mackenzie I've known your mom since forever, don't act like she didn't do this" he says.
I look down at the floor in shame.
Just in time, Maddie and mom return to the kitchen.
"Well we should get going" my dad says.
I say my goodbyes to everyone and go upstairs to pack for my sleepover.
Mackenzie's Dad's POV
"Maddie go wait in the car" I say.
She doesn't understand, but then gets it and nods walking off.
"She fell on the tile huh?" I say.
Melissa glares.
"You leave our daughter alone or I'll get you locked up for so long you won't even remember us if you get out" I growl.
"I'm not afraid of you, Kurt" Melissa glares evilly.
"You will be if I find another mark on Mackenzie, stay the hell away from her" I glare before walking off.
She rolls her eyes and furiously slams the door.
Mackenzie's POV
I sneak out my window with my bag and text the group chat.
Mackenzie- on my way
Nadia- yayyyyyy!!!
Lauren- 👻👻
Annie- this is gonna be so fun
I smile and put my phone in my pocket as I start waking to Nadia's.
Once I get there, Nadia let's me in and we all go to the kitchen.
We grab a bunch of snacks and head up to Nadia's room.
*time skip*
"Annie, I dare you to call Hayden and tell him you're pregnant" Nadia says barely containing herself.
Annie's face drops as she sadly walks to the corner and starts dialing his number.
"Hello?"
"Uhh hey Hayden" Annie says nervously.
"Hey what's wrong?" He says.
"I'm pregnant" Annie blurts as we all try not to laugh.
"What?!"
"Um yeah I took a test this morning" she says.
"Oh um well uh" then we hear a sound of him vomiting and we all laugh.
"Omg Hayden I was just kidding" she says shocked.
"Gee thanks Annie" he says and hangs up.
We all burst into laughter.
As the game goes along, I can feel Brynn staring at me.
As I look her way, she gives me a hard glare.
"I'm gonna go to the bathroom" I say and get up to leave.
"I'm going to get snacks" Brynn says and follows me downstairs.
"You need to tell them" Brynn states.
"Brynn you know I can't" I say quietly.
"Mackenzie I'm done with this, you're going to get my help either way, if you don't tell them by Monday, I will" Brynn says.
I put my head down as she looks at me sympathetically.
"I can't let this happen to you any longer, Mackenzie" she quietly says and goes back to Nadia's room as I think about what to do.
*time skip*
After a wonderful night, I get up super early to go walking with Johnny.
I walk out of Nadia's house to see him waiting for me.
"Hey" I say and kiss his cheek as we interlace hands and start our walk.
"Hey boo" he says.
"Geez what the hell happened to your leg?!" He says as we stop.
"I fell that's all" I say quietly with my head down.
He picks me up and carries me to the park as I giggle.
He finally arrives at the park and puts me down.
As my legs are on his lap he's taking pictures of me with my phone.
Then it dings.
"Who the hell is brandon?" Johnny asks getting angry.
"He's nobody" I say trying to get my phone back.
"Hey cutie?" "Wanna go out sometime?!" He repeats the texts.
"What the fuck Mackenzie I thought we were doing good!" He states.
"I said I had a boyfriend, read the rest!" I argue.
I don't care! It's still wrong Kenzie!" He yells.
"Well you know what's wrong? Cheating on me!" I scream.
And I immediately regretted it.
Then he went silent.
"You never trusted me did you?" He asked tears filling his eyes.
"Johnny I'm sorry" I say trying to grab his hand, but he pulls away.
"Is this how it's always going to be, Mackenzie? You reminding me of what I did to you like I don't feel shitty enough!" I yell.
"Johnny I didn't mean it" I say tears filling my eyes.
He shakes his head.
"Yes you did" he says.
I shake my head crying as he says the two words I never thought I would have to hear again.
"We're over."
