I nodded, knowing they couldn't possibly hurt me in this form. I walked further in and could see myself begin to form. My feet, legs, stomach and chest. The others in the group were astonished.
"Emma!" Someone said.
"You guys know me?" I asked feeling a little awkward. A man approached, leader of his group.
"Yes, sorry. I'm Zach. You and I have the same power," he said reaching out to shake my hand but quickly stopped forgetting he couldn't touch me.
"Then you know how lame it is," I joked but the whole group just stared.
"We are very useful! Look, you got my message and followed the flow! Although we can't physically move place to place we travel through energy. We can find other people like us," Zach looked back to the group.
"You guys all have powers?" I asked. Some nodded and some demonstrated. One guy could produce electricity, which made sense how they had power. One just floated a bit. Another made perfect animal sounds.
"Quite random powers... Anyway, I'm glad you found us. We could use your addition to the group! We have six more like us in the city that we are tracking down. We have about a thousand more in Michigan. That's where home base is at."
"That's amazing.." I wanted to go there meet others like me...
"It is, we have people set up in jobs and houses with families. We are here to take you home with us," he said. I smiled but it slowly faded.
"The person I'm with is abusing his power. I'm not the only one suffering, he makes people do what he wants just by telling them. It doesn't seem to work on me but his staff are prepared to murder themselves if I even so much defy him. Jessica..." I trailed off for a second. "Jessica is my bestfriend, she's like us too!" I informed.
"Oh my god. I'm so sorry. When you escape come here," Zach said. I frowned.
"You're not going to help?" I asked. The group looked at each other.
"We're not exactly soldiers and if what you say is true about the one your with.. how could we help you without being taken down by him as well..?" Zach said. He wasn't wrong, it would be a suicide mission.
"No it's okay... I just kind of hoped,"
"Look. I can feel how strong you are and I know you'll make it. When things settle down, come find me and you'll have a place." Zach said. My body started to fade out and return to my body. I woke up and the sky was starting to brighten. I was out all night? Although I was disappointed the group couldn't help me out now, they would help in the long run. I needed some new scenery and a vacation from kilgrave and maybe even Jessica would come with me. I jumped up and got ready to do business with kilgrave. As I finished up and walked out of my room I saw kilgrave start to take off.
"Morning!" I startled him and he turned to me with a dissatisfied look.
I stood and waited for him to say something."Well. Come on then," he said in a dull unenthusiastic tone. I smiled at him genuinely.
"Thank you," I said walking out of the door and outside.
I stepped out into the street and it almost seemed different before. The image of it was unreal to my eye. Something perfect and straighten of a movie. The air was light and chilled. My breath just barely visible. The sun was rising into the sky, it's light was cut by the tall buildings. Their shadows slowly shifted and shrunk as the day began. The street were already busy with colorful cars like fish in a mechanical ocean. The sky was a light yet bright yellow with pinks and blues from the night before. The clouds started to dissipate to become small puffs. People walked by. They were free...
Kilgrave kept an eye on me while we walked. He was prepared for me to run and it was on my mind. I could make it if I tried... I realized that I had wasted time. I was too busy thinking about freedom that I missed the moment. Kilgrave and I had walked to the cafe that changed my life. He sat down and browsed the menu for coffee. I had glanced at the menu a bit seeing some interesting concoctions. One catching my eye.
"What would you like honey?" The waitress asked, I jumped at her suddenness.
"Uh, nothing," I said smirking and handing her the menu.
"Get me a black coffee," he commanded. The women went into a robotic mode and did as he asked. Kilgrave noticed a man a couple tables down reading the news paper. Without warning, he got up and approached the man. The man looked up from his newspaper then in the next moment he was handing it over. I stayed sitting and quiet. Kilgrave returned and turned to me for a moment, almost checking on me but without words or a comforting smile. Then he opened the paper and began to read. The waitress brought kilgrave his coffee and hurried to get back to work like it never happened. I watched kilgrave scan the crowd cautiously then read, every other time he would take a drink of coffee. It was somewhat rhythmic. I laid back and enjoyed the sun on my face and just how alive the world was. Before I knew it a familiar face sat down at the table. I sat up quickly.
"Malcolm?" I questioned. I didn't know how to feel, Malcolm was betraying Jessica.
"Emma?" He said.
"Malcolm..."
~~Jessica's POV~~
"Don't engage yet. And grab the girl too," I said into my walkie.
"Too dangerous Jessica. Too many people," Simpson said.
"Damn it just try,"
"No go," Simpson responded.
I stood nervously across the street as Simpson was approaching kilgrave. Trish was waiting in the van.
~~Emma's POV~~
Malcolm had handed over the folder filled with pictures of Jessica. I felt sick about it but I was outside. Kilgrave had his eyes on a big dude coming right at us with a paper bag covering his hand. Suddenly I felt nervous. Shouting came from the distance we looked over to Jessica waving her arms and shouting. A dart hit kilgrave and the man who had shot him grabbed him up. Jessica ran up to me and hugged me before pushing me in the back of the van with kilgrave past out.
"I'm so glad to see you guys,"I said relieved.
"Me too kid," Jessica said then punched kilgrave in the face while he was passed out.
"Wait. So what are you doing with kilgrave?" Simpson questioned.
"He kidnapped me," I answered.
"Seems Jessica gets a lot of people in trouble," Simpson said glaring at Jessica.
"Jessica has nothing to do with it. He's my father,"
"What?! You're the spawn of that monster!" He grabbed me up by my shirt. "I bet you're working with him!" Jessica threw him off me.
"Hey! She's with me, his powers have no affect on her" Jessica defended me.
"We can't trust her," Simpson pushed.
"I trust her," Jessica said winning the argument... Jessica didn't trust very many people, if any at all.
"We're here," Trish said from the drivers seat.
"Where are we?" I asked as Jessica flung open the doors. We were in front of some building away from the street. Jessica picked up kilgrave's limp body. Suddenly my body hit the ground and in quick swift movements kilgrave was in the hands of his hired bodyguards. They took out Jessica, then the officer, then Trish...
