chapter 18

Leappaw returned to the camp with fresh wet moss. He carried the moss over to the nursery. He padded inside the little cave that was carved in the stones. He saw Starmoon sleeping with her lits suckling at her belly. Willowkit was laying on top of her brothers like a leader. She's going to be feirce. Leappaw thought. He padded over to them and poked to Starmoon's flank using his paw. Starmoon opened her one eye and glared at the white Apprentice.
"You better have my moss" she growled. She swept her tail to her kits to push them closer to her body.
"They're really cute" Leappaw praised. Starmoon looked down at her kits with blue delightful eyes.
"I know" she answered and licked Grasskit on his forehead.
"Put the moss down and I'll take care of that" Starmoon ordered. Leappaw nodded and placed the moss down. He turned around to see Tigertail with Berrykit and Nightkit trying to fetch her lashing tail.

"Ah Leappaw. Glad you're back. Could you take Berrykit and Nightkit out? They're disturbing Starmoon and her kits" Tigertail pleased. Nightkit turned to Tigertail.
"We wont disturb her anymore, we promise" Nightkit promised. Tigertail gently pushed her foster daughters away with a hef hind leg. Leappaw nodded and lashed his tail for the two sisters to follow him.
"Okay we can catch moss ball" Leappaw suggested. Berrykit and Nightkit shook their heads.
"Thats boring!" Nightkit exclaimed.
"Teach us the hunting crouch!" Berrykit squiled. Nightkit lighted up with exitement.
"Okay" Leappaw purred and crouched down.
"You have to keep your tail still, but not to high. And you have to balance on your sides" Leappaw instructed. Berrykit and Nightkit tried making the crouch.

"Nightkit, your tail is lashing" Leappaw pointed out. Nightkit looked at her tail in shame.
"Sorry" she mumbled. Leappaw then glanced at Berrykit.
"Berrykit... i have no idea what that is" Leappaw mewed and gave a mrrow of amusement. Berrykit looked shamefully down at her paws. Leappaw looked at the tiny she-kit and bent down.
"No no no no no i didnt mean it like that! Please Berrykit stop sniffing" Leappaw begged. But Berrykit couldnt stop sniffing.
"Already making a kit cry? That was earlyer than i thought" Leappaw glanced up to see a white paw and cream brown fur.
"Jeez, and here i thought you learned something from Shadowclaw. But i guess her training was a waste" Melodypaw teased. Leappaw narrowed her eyes.
"Dont you dare say her name!" He spat. Melodypaw smirked.
"What's wrong? Am i making little Leapkit cry?" Melodypaw teased. Leappaw unsheated his claws.
"Oh yeah! Well, im not sure Furyfang would be very proud of you. She mist be hiding somewhere in Starclan of shame on how she trained you!" Leappaw answered. As he spoke those words, Melodypaw's eyes were filled with hatred.

"You say her name one more freaking time, i am going to rip your pelt of!" Melodypaw threatned. Leappaw snorted.
"Yeah. And a tabby can change his stripes" he mewed. Melodypaw unsheated her claws and were ready to bounce, but a cat pushed her aside.
"Enough!" Clawfoot shouted. Leappaw crouched down.
"By saying these words you're questening Furyfang and Shadowclaw's honor!" He hissed. Leappaw glanced away, to meet Tigertail's amber gaze laying on him. She turned around and padded away.
Tigertail, im sorry! Then he felt an angry green gaze staring at him. He glanced at where Deathcloud stood with Sunflight to see Sunflight's horrified stare, and Deathcloud's dissapointed look.
"I would put you two back in the nursery if i could! But thats up to your mentors and clan leader" Clawfoot mewed and glanced at Energystar's den. Seasonleaf were with her.
"Sorry Clawfoot" Leappaw apolagized. Clawfoot didnt seem to pay attention. Leappaw turned around and raced out of camp. He heard Berrykit and Nightkit trying to follow him, but he was faster.

Leappaw ran into the forest, taking heavy breathings. I had to get out... i had too... Leappaw glanced up at the sky. The moon was coming up and the camp was far behind.
"Shadowclaw where are you?" Leappaw murmurred. A bush rusttled behind him. He jumped up in the air and looked behind him. A grey and black fur pushed out of the bracken bush.
"Oh its just you" Leappaw mewed. Bluemoon nodded. He had an interestec expression.
"You must miss Shadowclaw so much" Bluemoon mewed, padding closer.
"I do. I wish she still were here so she could teach me" Leappaw had hoped Shadowclaw would pad through the entrence every day, but she never did.
"I miss her just as much as any cat" Bluemoon purred. Leappaw looked up at the grey warrior.
"I do wish there was a cat that didnt exist" Leappaw whispered. Bluemoon lifted his ears.
"Melodypaw?" He guessed. Leappaw slowly nodded his head.
"What will you do to her?" Bluemoon asked. Leappaw shrugged.
"Probaly something to get her un trouble" Leappaw mewed. Bluemoon widened his blue eyes.
"Trouble? Well its okay, but i was thinking of a little death" Bluemoon mewed.kill her?!
"No way i couldnt kill her!" Leappaw shouted. Bluemoon snikered.
"Of course not kill her. But maybe frame her for a murder?" Bluemoon suggested. Leappaw glanced away.
"But that would mean i habe to kill another cat" Leappaw protested. Bluemoon flicked around.

"This is your decesion, not mine" Bluemoon padded into the brackens and dissapeird. Maybe i could blame Melodypaw for murder! I just need a cat. Leappaw thought. He turned around and padded back to the camp.

When Leappaw returned, the fresh kill pile was small. Crow-wind returned from the dirtplace. Berrykit and Nightkit played outside the nursery. Deathcloud was sharing a sauirrel with Clawfoot in the clearing. Leappaw spotted Melodypaw sit with Flamewing, Oakstripe and Pheonixfeather. Leappaw padded over to Nightkit and Berrykit.
"Can i join?" He asked. Berrykit and Nightkit stopped playing and glanced up at Leappaw.
"Tigertail said not to talk to you" Nightkit mewed. The two kits then taced into the nursery again.
Suddenly Ticcispeak, Cherrypelt, Firestripe and Bluemoon raced into camp.
"Badger! Badger attack!"
