Tuesday

"Babe, wake up. We have to take the kids to school," Ivy whispered as she shook me gently.

I groaned. "But why? They stayed home yesterday, why can't they today?"

"Brook, they can't stay home all the time. Come on, get up. I'm going to get the kids ready," Ivy said.

Then she walked out of the room, leaving me alone.

I rubbed my eyes and stretched. Then I got up and walked to the bathroom.

"Sabrina, Zion, come on! You're gonna be late for school," I stated as I walked to the car.

"But dad, I don't wanna go!" Sabrina whined.

"Sweetie, you have too," I said as I lifted her up and walked to the car with her on my hip.

Ivy walked Zion to the car with her holding his hand and his backpack in her other hand.

The kids got into the back whilst I got into the drivers seat with Ivy in the passenger's seat.

I drove to the kid's school whilst making small talk with Ivy and talking to the kids.

Once we got to their school, they both climbed out of the car. Ivy got out as well, and then I got out.

I bent down in front of Sabrina and said, "Have a good day, sweetie." Then I kissed her forehead, gave her a quick hug, and waited for Ivy to finish saying goodbye to Zion. Once Ivy was down I placed my hand on Zion's back and walked him to his class.

"Bye, dad," Zion said once we got to his class.

"Bye, buddy. I'll see you after school," I said whilst ruffling his hair.

He smiled at me and ran his hand through his hair to fix it before walking into his class.

I strolled back to the car. I looked around to see if Ivy was out yet, but it appears to me that she's still saying goodbye to Sabrina, as usual. Sabrina was never as willing as Zion to go to school. I think that's one of the characteristics she got from Ivy.

I sat in the car, tapping on the steering wheel to the beat of a random song on the radio whilst I waited for Ivy to come out.

"What's taking you so long?" I asked.

"Sabrina just really doesn't wanna go. I think I need your help again," Ivy replied.

"Okay. I'll be there in a sec," I said.

I got out of the car and headed to Sabrina's class that I memorised from the many times that I needed to help Ivy get Sabrina into her classroom.

"Mom, I don't wanna go!" I heard Sabrina sob as I neared her class.

I saw Ivy and Sabrina's teacher standing in the hallway with Sabrina, trying to comfort her and get her into class.

"Sabrina, sweetie, you have to go," I said softly as I walked up to her.

"But daddy, I don't want to," Sabrina said as a tear rolled down her tiny pink cheeks.

I bent down in front of her and grabbed both of her hands, taking them into mine.

"It's only a few hours, and then you get to come home," I stated.

She sobbed more. "But I don't wanna stay here!"

I looked away from her, staring at the wall as I chewed on my bottom lip. Then I looked back up to her.

"I'll tell you what, if you go to school, you can have any sweet treat you want when you get home, and you get the choice of dinner," I offered.

She smiled through her tears. "Really?"

"Yeah," I said with a nod as I looked at Ivy. Ivy nodded at Sabrina who was looking up at her.

"Okay," Sabrina gave in as she sniffled.

I wiped her tear-filled cheeks and kissed her forehead.

"How you go into class, and for the whole day, think about that. Okay?" I asked.

She nodded. "Okay."

She gave Ivy and I one last hug before grabbing her teacher's hand and walking into class.

Ivy and I walked outside the school and toward the car again.

Ivy plopped into the passenger's seat once we got to the car.

"I'm exhausted," Ivy complained as she rubbed her eye with the palm of her hand.

"Me too," I said.

"You're okay though, right?" Ivy asked.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm alright, love. Don't worry," I said reassuringly, glancing over at her as I started driving.

"Okay. I just wanted to make sure," She said.

I grabbed onto her hand and kissed her knuckles whilst keeping my eyes on the road and one hand on the steering wheel. Then I dropped her hand onto my lap and turned on the music to cast over the silence that we've been engulfed in. Then I grabbed her hand and continued to hold it for the whole ride home.
