Dante
"Why?"
The single word escaped my lips as the same dream happened over and over again. I didn't know I had spoken to anyone in particular, until I threw a pillow at whoever had awoken me from my slumber.
My nightmare, a number chosen at random keeping me from reality as it shun my feelings and memories. The question why escaped my lips, pondered until it littered itself on the bottom of the ocean.
Why.
I could ask the same—no, I couldn't ask because I don't know how to. These dreams seem so real...so...vivid—as clear as daylight, I knew I must be hallucinating.
But I am not.
I still see the extant moment Natalia dies, Aristotle lying on the ground—and I...I'm lost; lost in the dark. A box shut in tight with no way out.
Why.
No.
STOP—Stop asking why.
Why...
Because I only hoped that wouldn't be true—my vision will not become real. I tangle my hand in his hair; I would never let Aristotle die alone—in the dark as the world splits apart.
I try to close my sleepy eyes, start counting sheep, but I cannot be asleep—not when I'll have the same dream again. And this time I wouldn't be peacefully awaken.
Next time I would wake up screaming.
