Steve slowly opened the window from the fire escape of his apartment and we slowly and quietly entered. Steve picked up his shield and I had a hand gun ready in my hands. But when we rounded the corner it was only Nick Fury.

"I don't remember giving you a key," Steve muttered as the two of us stayed in our place. As Nick sat up letting out a small grunt of pain which caused me to furrow my brows.

"You really think I'd need one?" He asked. "My wife kicked me out."

"I didn't know you were married," I spoke at the same tone as Steve.

"A lot of things you don't know about me."

"We know, Nick. That's the problem." Steve said as he leaned over to turn on the lamp. But Fury's face was all beaten up and he had obviously broken something. He raised his hand and turned the lamp back off.

He typed something on his phone before turning it to us. Ears everywhere. It read. Steve and I shared a glance of "come on" as we realized we were in a dangerous situation right now.

"I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash." He said as he typed something else. Shield compromised. Oh boy, this isn't good.

"Does anyone else know about your wife?" I asked. You two and me. Nick showed us before standing up, holding his arm to his chest.

"Just...my friends."

"Is that what we are?" Steve asked with a stone cold expression.

"That's up to you." Just then bullets rained through the walls, shooting Fury. Steve caught onto the director, dragging him off to the side.

I looked at the window to see a man dressed in some metal suit on the roof of the next building.

"I got this," I muttered, creating a portal.

"Cali!" Steve shouted as I jumped through. I found myself on the roof and saw the guy who glanced over at me before running off as I heard glass break and saw Steve jumping through the window. I created another portal at the end of the building where the guy was about to jump off.

"Who are you?" I asked staring into his icy blue eyes. A chill ran down my spine. When there was no answer I began to create a forcefield that resembled a wall that surrounded the two of us. "I asked, who are you," I stated this time. When his fist flew up, I caught it mid-swing. "Nice arm." I complimented as my fingers began to bend the metal of it.

Just then there was a shattering and the man turned in his spot to see Steve had jumped out the window. When he swung the shield, he released the grip of my hand and the walls dropped, only to catch it mid-air.

"Holy shit," I muttered under my breath. Before I could even think he pulled out a knife with his real arm and lodged it into my shoulder and he shot the shield back at Steve. But then he just disappeared.

I was suddenly met with a wave of pain as Steve ran up to me, catching me before I could fall to the ground.

"That hurt," I muttered under my breath. "Apartment or hospital?" I asked.

"Cali you are going to the hospital."

"Noted," I said before I circled my hand, opening a portal to the closest hospital. As we exited I was then rushed to the emergency room and operated on. Once the weapon was removed, I decided to hold onto it. The stitches were just god awful. But after I was patched up Steve and I left to watch the surgery of Nick Fury.

Steve and I stood close beside each other in a sense of comfort. In this kind of situation, we really needed each other. But just then Nat rushed through the door.

"Is he gonna make it?" She asked, eyes glued to the surgery.

"I don't know," Steve replied.

"Tell me about the shooter." She demanded.

"He's fast. We have about the same strength levels. Metal arm. He had a really bad makeup job. He's just overall terrifying." I explained.

"Ballistics?" Natasha asked as if all the air had been swept from her lungs.

I have never seen her like this before. The agent who was normally cold to the touch. The amount of confidence she radiated was bone chilling. But now she looked so broken down, almost like a little kid.

"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable." Maria Hill spoke up.

"Soviet-made," Nat muttered under her breath. Just then chaos broke loose in the surgery room as Fury flatlined. The surgeons began to call out to each other giving out different orders.

"Don't do this to me, Nick," Natasha spoke ever so softly. Everything was happening so fast. A single tear fell down my cheek as they announced the time of death. Steve and I both had to leave the room, leaving Nat and Maria to watch them clean up.

"What's the time?"

"1:03, Doctor."
