The man from the roof. The man with the metal arm. The man who almost killed me. The man who could always manage to make my anxiety sky rocket. This was the man who had befriended Steve back in the forties. But mentally, he wasn't.
"Because I'm nice, and as a thank you for not killing me," I began, which earned a look of confusion. "What would you like to be addressed as? Winter Soldier, or Bucky?" I stalled as I waited for Steve to come. "You know I could create a portal and just drop you into some other universe. But I won't. Remember that man on the bridge?" I asked. His demeanor seemed to change slightly in that one question. "Yeah, his name is Steve and he cares a whole lot about you. So I'm not going to kill you." I looked over his shoulder when I heard footsteps, only to see Steve. The soldier turned around to face the Captain, keeping his silent yet eerie tone.
"People are gonna die, Buck," Steve spoke up. "I can't let that happen." When the man didn't respond, Steve let out a small sigh. "Please don't make me do this." When Steve shifted his gaze to me I got the hint.
I landed a kick into the side of Bucky's torso and Steve threw his shield at him, to which it ricocheted off of his metal arm. Bucky then turned to me, flicking out a knife and a gun. I tried my best to dodge and not attack. When the fight turned back on them, I turned to replace the chip. When the machine lowered, I tore out the old one, but I found a bullet lodged in my side, causing the chip to slip from my fingers and fall to the level below me.
I cursed out in pain from the wound. Man, this guy really loved to tear me to pieces. I ran over and jumped over the edge to retrieve the chip, but the soldier followed me. I used my telekinesis to make the chip land back in my pocket as I handled the soldier. I dodged punches and landed kicks. Steve then joined me on the lower level and once he had enough of Bucky's attention, I levitated up to the chip station thing again. But when the soldier began to shoot at me this time, I was more ready. I created a portal for the bullets to fly through before shutting it. I looked down below me once I heard a scream to see that Steve dislocated Bucky's real shoulder and then putting him in a chokehold.
I looked over to my side to see Steve keeping an eye on the level below us as Bucky remained unconscious. I typed in the codes so I could have access to the chips.
"We've got one minute," Steve told me. As I moved the glass casing, another bullet tore through me, but through my hip. "Stand by." A couple more bullets shot through, one ripping through Steve's abdomen and one through mine. I collapsed to the floor, it stunting my actions. I quickly turned back on my earpiece.
"Stand by," I mumbled through the pain. I pushed myself up and created a forcefield around me as I tried to keep myself steady. I placed the chip in its rightful spot before slamming the button to set the system in. "Charlie lock." I huffed out.
"Okay, Cali, get you and the Captain out of there." I looked down at Steve who nodded to me and I knew what he meant.
"Fire now," I spoke through.
"But, Cali..."
"Do it!" I shouted as I let my forcefield down. "Do it now!" A huge jolt went through the helicarrier and Steve and I just held onto the guard rails. I looked down to see Bucky under a metal beam, screaming in pain. "Come on," I told the Captain, lowering us down to the hurt soldier.
The two of us got under the beam and helped push it up. The soldier just managed to squirm out from the weight before we had to drop it. I looked down to see the first helicarrier fall to the bay below us. By the growing pit in my stomach, I knew that we would be in the same boat soon.
"You know me," Steve said as him and Bucky stood up.
"No, I don't!" Bucky shrieked, punching Steve to the ground.
"You're name is James Buchanan Barnes. You and Steve grew up together." I helped my best on the little knowledge I knew on Bucky. He turned around and punched me to the floor with as much strength as he could, my impact cracking the glass. I wheezed out a breath in pain.
Everything Steve said to Bucky afterward sounded like a blur. I wanted to help, but I couldn't move. Between the blood loss and the impact to my back. I couldn't breathe. A giant beam fell to the glass floor, throwing Steve to the water below us. But once Bucky pulled himself back up he made his way to me.
"Are you gonna kill me?" I asked the best I could, my breathing was rattly and uneven, why couldn't he just leave me here to die. He didn't respond. He just picked me up and jumped through the glass. With the last bit of energy I had, I created a force field to help with the impact of the water.
The water was cold against my bruising skin. It felt like pins and needles all over me. But I just let myself go, hoping the pain would be over soon.
