"In a field that has seen thousands of years of peace lie cold corpses, and still the attacks are fired without stop, without a single witness. The battle seems to be never-ending, and even when we think we have the tiniest bit of wiggle room to breathe, another attack is launched. The ninja's we are fighting against have no empathy, no remorse, and never fail to kill on command of their higher-ups. They don't know what it is to be human. They were trained not to feel, as were we. But, to watch your comrades fall and to have to no sadness- no feeling is diabolical. We can't live this way forever, like human-rabbits in our warren. One day there will be one last battle - them or us, no truce, no captives. That day is today," Yato's strong voice boomed in the hideout. He had called all of his teammates somewhere private- in the dead of night to go over his new plan.
Beside Yato stood Kakashi, his eyes glazed over with determination. All of the hidden leafs allies stood before the two, listening intently even though their bodies ached from the amount of physical activity they were putting themselves through. This 'mission' was something they weren't prepared for- no one was. Training is helpful, but everyone has their limits.
"We all stand here, tired, angry, some of us are simply taken over with a strong urge to revenge those who lives were taken," Kakashi's voice filled the room, quieting the small whispers that could be heard here and there.
"We have pushed ourselves to our limits and many of you want to give up. I can see it in the way you're carrying out your attacks, the looks upon your faces. I hear every, "life is so hard," my question I have to you is compared to what? We are all shinobi. We have all trained, we have all lost someone precious to us. As Yato said, we were trained to be this way- to not feel. You are all entitled to your emotions," he paused briefly.
"But, any distraction out there will only end in more of my comrades dying. So, I ask all of you, are you willing to abandon apart of your humanity in order to get the upper hand in this situation? A person who cannot sacrifice everything, cannot change anything."
Yato and Kakashi scanned the room, seeing who would want to back out.
"I don't want to be deemed as a bad person!" A random voice called out shakily.
" don't like the terms "good person" or "bad person" because it is impossible to be entirely good to everyone. This is about winning this battle so we can go home to our family and friends and properly mourn our lost comrades." Yato answered quickly. He wanted to get this done as quick as possible, but he couldn't help but wonder why this was harder than what Tsunade has originally said in the file. It wasn't supposed to come down to this.
"I need you all to trust me. I will finish this in a matter of a few minutes if you allow me to. I need all of your permission before I unleash my true power. The reason why Kakashi said you have to abandon apart of your humanity is, well... If you agree to let me do this, you will live with the fact you allowed thousands of people to die. But, if getting you all back home safely means I burden the actual killing, I am willing to do that."
Sighs of relief could be heard throughout the room, some people broke down crying, but all of their answers were the same.
"I want to go home," That was enough clarification for Yato. He turned on his heel, Kakashi following close behind him. After taking a few steps, Yato stopped in his tracks before speaking loud enough for everyone in the room to hear.
"Even if things are painful and tough, people should appreciate what it is to be alive. Just remember that something is only truly lost when you forget about it. Take the memories you have and cherish them. Cherish those who are still alive, cherish your own life. Life is what you make of it. If you chose to live in sadness and sorrow, then what is the point of being alive? Use what makes you sad or upset as your new found strength, not a crutch." And with that, he left the room, leaving many people to contemplate their way of living.
"Pitiful," he whispered to himself as he continued to walk, Kakashi by his side. During their time here, the two got to know each other better and became good friends.
"For most of them, this was their first major mission. You can't blame them for feeling the way they do, however, letting one's emotions interfere with the mission is a huge no-no in the ninja world," Kakashi explained. Yato nodded, letting his words set in. In truth, this was the most human interaction he has had for a while. Humans confused him, to say the least, but they also intrigued him.
"I am going to be calling on my regalia, Yukine, it will help get the job done a lot faster. Yukine is a very powerful Shinki and in order to do this, I need him. Stand back," Yato ordered.
"Yukine!" Yato yelled out as a bright blue light appeared that soon transformed into a silver Ōdachi, the handle of which is loosely wrapped in bandages. Kakashi looked at him in total awe. He couldn't believe what he has just witnessed, needless to say, he was impressed.
"Now, let's get this over with so we can go home," Yato smirked at Kakashi with a glint of amusement in his eye. It had been a while since he had used Yukine, he was excited to see the boy again after this.
" This is the Land of the Rising Sun! Your desecration shall not be allowed! Hear me! I am the god Yato! I now lay thee waste with the Sekki, and expel thy vast defilement! I cleanse thee! --- Rend!" Yato yelled out, a blinding light filling every square inch of the battlefield.
~Time skip because I'm literally awful writing out battle scenes~
Sunlight filled the sky, pure scattered light; its hue ambitiously illuminating each crevice of the land. Sparrows chirped an explicit background melody. The whole ordeal only lasted a few minutes, just like Yato said. All of those who he deemed as being 'the bad guy' met their end, and those who were deemed as 'the good guys' were walking home, just like Kakashi, Yukine, and Yato were.
"I'm sure Yukine can stay with us. But until we can find a bigger place, the both of you will have to share a room." Kakashi said kindly, making the boy smile at him.
"Thank you, Mr. Hatake, but may I ask who is 'us'?" He questioned out of pure curiosity.
"Please, call me Kakashi, and 'us' would be referring to my girlfriend, (Y/n)."
"Ah, I see," Yukine nodded, understanding more.
"Ne, Yato, I have been watching everything, you know? I wish you would have let me out sooner," Yukine huffed in annoyance.
"I'm sorry Yukine, but I needed to wait for the perfect moment, plus I only just got a majority of my power back," Yato pointed out before taking a sip of water out of his cantine.
"'Though, something is still troubling me," Yato said after placing the cantine back in his bag.
"And that would be?" Kakashi questioned.
"In the mission description, we were only meant to be used as backup- to go in when the front liners needed a break. The original mission said that two villages were going at each other and the only reason we would be there for more than a month would be to collect data,"
"I am well aware of the mission details, Yato," Kakashi reminded.
"You didn't let me finish. Two villages and their allies were supposed to be fighting. They never said what for. Don't you find it ironic that you get dealt a mission after Tsunade finds out (Y/n) is pregnant, and before you guys even knew about that she killed two Akatsuki members? What if this whole thing was stagged out?"
"What do you mean?" Yukine asked.
"She didn't want me telling you this, but she was captured by an Akatsuki member shortly after we left for this mission. And before she lent me the rest of her chakra, two ninjas tried to take her in order to make some money. If this whole thing was stagged, they must really want her.. and... right now, she is home unconscious."
"We need to get home now!" Kakashi growled out, taking off running as fast as his feet would allow him to go, the other two trying to keep up with him.
'Why wouldn't she tell me? I swear (Y/n) if something has happened to you..."
