Vocation #3: Mage

Magi specialize in casting destructive spells. They go on the offensive with magic, however they tend to perform poorly in close combat. They can use field spells to help the group during adventures as well. Magi have powerful magical abilities, and have an entire arsenal of spells available to them.

However, magi are unable to use most kinds of "heavy" weapons such as swords, axes, and spears. Magi also don't wear any armour, because that would fall into the category of "heavy" equipment. They instead are able to master the lighter weapons and equipment — knives, wands, whips, and shields — and wear clothing that lessens the effects of spells cast by the enemy.

The mage's Coup-de-Grace is "0 Zone," which reduces the effect casting spells has on their energy. It gives them the ability to go on the offensive with their spellcasting and deal out a lot of damage with no repercussions. While it doesn't last long, it creates enough of an opportunity to take down some tougher foes.

While magi have fewer options than sages in battle, they more than make up for it with sheer magical might. This makes them great at "crowd control" — i.e. dealing with a group of monsters — as well as dealing out incredible damage to bosses and tougher monsters.

Magi are also able to use various amulets, rings, and other accessories that give various kinds of boosts and/or bonuses.

The final award for the mage is the Mager Achievement. This medal is awarded to the mage for being among the best in their vocation, and it increases their magical might while also upping their natural defence.
