Marinette breathed heavily as she finally made it to her destination. Alya and Nino were waiting for her.
"Girl! There you are!" Alya hugged her. Marinette returned the affection with a smile.
"Bout time you made it dudette!" Nino greeted. "Thought we'd miss the commercials."
"Oh shut up, Nino. I had second thoughts about you showing up too." Alya rolled her eyes, letting go of Marinette.
Nino's eyes were wide, "Hey! It wasn't my fault that my brother took up the bathroom for over thirty minutes!"
"So what?? I have two little sisters! Who are twins I might add! So you've got no room to speak!" Alya argued.
Marinette watched the two with a faint smile. She was third wheeling yet again. But of course this was better spending her special day with her friends instead of staying home at the bakery with her parents.
"Hey Marinette." Adrien walked over with a wave along with a smile.
Marinette looked over and as soon as she caught Adrien's gaze, her eyes immediately widened along with a jump. "A-A-Adrien!! Hey!!" The girl smiled but felt timid at the same time. Why was Adrien here? She never remembered Alya saying that he was tagging along. Not that Marinette had anything against the idea.
Adrien gave her one of his signature charming smiles, "I didn't know you would be here."
"N-Nor did I! I-I mean I didn't know you would be here either!" Marinette laughed nervously, casting Alya and Nino a warning stare.
Alya only smirked while wrapping an arm around the bluebell, "As you already know, it's Marinette's birthday. So I decided to come up with the idea of her spending time with her best friends. With a surprise included," she winked.
Yeah... and a big one at that.... we're so having a talk later about this, Alya...
"And that idea was to have the both of you here in order to make you guys closer as friends again." Nino stated with a wink at Alya.
Both Adrien and Marinette continued to stare at their friends, completely oblivious of what's going on.
"Basically you're both here because of a planned double date." Alya smirked.
"A double date?!" Marinette and Adrien shouted in unison. The two quickly looked at each other with matching shades of faint pink spread across their faces.
Nino chuckled while taking Alya's hand, "Relax you two. It isn't that bad, live a little. You two knew each other for a long time, so a date shouldn't be able to change that."
"Nice choice of words DJ," Alya whispered secretly.
"Thanks WiFi," Nino whispered back, arm around her.
Both Marinette and Adrien slowly turned to look at each other in the eyes. The silence between them only made things more awkward than it already had.
