Kathy's P.O.V
"So dearest brother bear...I saw you sneaking out late last night. Is there something you need to tell me?" I question Evan, as we set up the dinner table. Supper with the dysfunctional 'family' again tonight.
...How fun...
Evan tenses up at my question and also at the fact that I know about his little adventure last night. "Umm, t-there's ah. There's nothing to tell." He replies and my jaw drops. Since when is there nothing to tell between us? "Evan, since when do we keep secrets from each other?" I raise an eyebrow at him and he just shrugs, avoiding any eye contact. Okay, this is weird. "Come on Evan, you mean to tell me that you don't want to tell me where you snuk off to last night?" I ask getting just a tiny bit annoyed. And to be fair, it's not my fault. Actually it's his.
You can't get somebody used to being told everything that goes on in your life and then suddenly want to change that. It's absurd. "Yup." Is his reply that absolutely irritates me. "So there's no new girl? No party? No nothing?" I ask one last time, just to make sure that he really doesn't want to tell me anything.
"Kathy, there is nothing to tell. So can we just drop it?" He snaps at me and I am shocked. Something is up with him. I'll have to talk to him later. He probably just needs time to think about some things and I can give him that. Finally dinner starts and everyone, except Keven, who is at a sleepover, is seated at the table. I hate this so much. But at least the food is good. "Katharine, I hope I'm making myself clear when I say this. You will never again come home as late as you did this weekend. Now I didn't want to say anything because your mother convinced me to calm down but it will never happen again, understand?" My 'so called father' says and basically ruins my dinner. It hasn't even been five minutes of sitting together and already he's on my case. "Answer me when I talk to you dammit before I do something I'll regret!" He suddenly shouts, making me flinch at his outburst. "Calm down Edgar, you can't lose your temper. Remember?" His wife says. Why the hell is she vouching for me? It's annoying.
"She can talk for herself can't she?" I just sigh and then nod my head slowly. "It won't happen again." I say and he just growls and then continues to eat his food. My appetite is gone but I better eat before there's a repeat of the last time. Some time later Evan clears his throat, getting the attention of everyone. His right hand is holding this cutlery while his left hand is fisted on the table. "Pops, is your offer for that job still available?" He asks king monster and I almost choke on the broccoli in my mouth.
What did he just say?
I look between him and king monster and I won't lie, he is just as confused as I am. "I thought you said you would never in your life work with an asshole like me. Why the sudden change?" Well, he is an asshole and also he is right. Why is Evan doing this? I give him the ' what the fuck!' look but he just looks away and avoids further eye contact. "I need the extra cash. Is the job still available or not?" Evan says with an attitude in his tone. His chuckle booms through the whole room and I feel myself becoming extremely angry.
Why the hell did Evan not tell me about this before. Instead he just drops a huge bomb on everyone, especially me. First he sneaks around, and now this. Something is not right. He is keeping something big from me and I'm getting really frustrated because of it. I just can't wrap my head around Evan wanting to work for Edgar. We vowed to not use his money at our own will, and now here he is asking for a job. You can obviously guess how pissed off I am.
...Extremely...
That was a rhetorical statement.
...whatever...
