Chapter 12 - Planned Pregnancy and Painful Plants
Lee's car was finally back on dry land. It took us ages and the guy that Kenzi and I had managed to convince to help up, had done nothing but complain.
"I can't believe I pretended to be in labour," Kenzi mumbled to herself.
"I can't believe that I believed it," the other guy responded, shaking his head and gesturing down her body. "I mean, you're like a stick!" he finished. He was from America and was apparently called 'Brett'. He was nice enough, just kept moaning about how stupid Lee was in driving into the pond. And how my expectations of guys must've been low because I was with Hunter.
"I can't believe that I drove into a pond," Lee added, looking at the mass of water and then at his wet car.
"Can we stop 'not believing', please?" Hunter snapped, running his hand through his hair and glaring at Brett.
"Aw, please excuse my boyfriend. He has a thing for Peter Pan and you know what happens to Tinkerbell when everyone stops believing..." I chimed, trailing off with a fake smile and patting Hunter's chest. Brett smirked and Lee let out a bark of laughter.
"What does happen to Tinkerbell?" Hunter whispered in my ear and I chuckled.
"She nearly dies," I said with a shrug.
Lee got into the car, starting the engine and spurting all the water out of the exhaust.
"So, now I know that you're not pregnant, where are you off to?" Brett asked Kenzi, turning on a charm that really didn't work.
"I have to go to the hospital. Bowel problems," Kenzi explained. Brett's face twisted up in horror.
"What?"
"Well, once I start, I just can't stop! That's how we ended up down here. Lee needed to stop somewhere quiet for be to do my business," she informed and he took a step back, starting towards the narrow road.
"Yeah, we like to call our stops 'poopertunities'," I added with a grin and Brett coughed, excusing himself by saying that he needed to get back to his car.
"Drive safe!" Lee called after him, dropping back into the front seat and laughing his head off. Kenzi grinned and clambered back into the front seat.
"Poopertunities?" Hunter asked me with a grin. Lee chuckled and then looked at Kenzi.
"You pretended to be pregnant?" he questionned, raising an eyebrow. Kenzi shook her head, holding one hand up to silence him.
"No, I pretended to be in labour. There's a difference." I laughed, settling into the back with Hunter beside me.
"She was pretty damn good at it, too. I'm surprised you didn't hear her. She was wailing away," I replied. Hunter draped his arm over the back of my seats and kissed the side of my neck. Lee just shook his head in disbelief, putting the car into reverse and turning around.
"How did you manage to pull that off? Like Brett said, you're tiny," Lee responded, starting our journey back through the bushes. Kenzi held up her shoulder bag.
"Life is easy when you carry a head scarf around. We just stuffed it up my shirt." Lee gave her an incredulous look and Hunter's brows furrowed.
"You carry a head scarf around?" He asked her and she nodded and held up the blue, silk material.
"Yeah, why?" Hunter shook his head, widdening his eyes at her murderous expression.
"No reason."
