Chapter 31 – Crazy Collies and Cranky Company
“No, I cannot bang,” I droned, flicking a hair band at Kyle’s head. Since travelling over a few days before with a load of money and two other gang members, he’d been anything but happy. As Dory would say, he was a right old ‘Mr. Grumpy Gills’. I’d give him his due, he hadn’t really had the best last few months so I let him and his temper off.
“Bet Hunter’s having a whale of a time,” Kyle taunted, winking at me with a sly smirk. I rolled my eyes, giving him an un-amused look.
“Oh, I’ve found plenty of fun elsewhere,” Hunter cooed, shutting the van door behind him, two paper bags in hand.
“Charming. That’s one way to keep your girlfriend,” I muttered, pushing myself to my feet. Hunter grinned, holding the door of the van open.
Dylan and Alex had been out all morning to go and find a hotel that wouldn’t be under the surveillance of Caesar and his terrors. It had been a week since our last encounter and my stomach was healing nicely. Just, as Kyle so gracefully put it, I couldn’t have sex, drink or do drugs, which to be honest, was pretty much my mum’s house rules.
“This is you assuming that I want to keep my girlfriend?” I scoffed, pushing him backwards outside the van to get out. We’d been living in there for a week and I was more than ready to dump myself in a hotel room.
“Ah, domestic bliss!” Alfie cooed, leaning in the side of the van to grab his bag. I merely raised an eyebrow at him, grabbing onto Hunter to lower myself to the ground.
Hunter and I rushed into the lobby and took our room key, dodging as many people as possible as we got to the lift. He put his hand on the wall above me and raised an eyebrow expectantly.
“I’m not kissing you,” I said and he sighed, pushing back, folding his arms over his chest.
“Then I’m not playing your walking stick any longer,” he sniffed. I shrugged, kicking his shin.
“Fine, don’t expect anything from me when I get better,” I retorted, pushing my suitcase on the floor and sauntering out the lift the best that I could without hurting my hips.
Just as I turned the corner and lugged my suitcase to my side, the door swung open and I fist flew forwards.
