"Sweetheart."
My warm blankets are pulled off of my toasty warm body. I curse the person who is currently interfering with my beauty sleep. "It's time to wake up."
"Hmm, just a few more minutes," I groan sleepily. I shove my face deep into my pillow in a feeble attempt to block out whoever is disturbing me.
"I'm making your favourite for breakfast. It's alright if you want to go back to sleep, that means there is more for me," I immediately stick my head up in response.
"Ham and cheese omelet?" I question hopefully. My father nods at me with a smirk plastered on his face. He knows a ham and cheese omelet is my only weakness in the morning. "Fine, I'm up!" I swing my feet over the side of my bed wiping the sleep from my eyes.
Bribery with food.
Well played, father.
"Be quick, you don't want to be late for school," Dad gives me a quick peck on the cheek before disappearing downstairs.
I don't take long to get ready. I have a quick hot shower to wake myself up before throwing on a pair of black leggings and a burgundy cropped sweater. I made a failed attempt to French braid my hair. I had to resort to pulling it into my usual messy bun.
"Thank you so much," I shovel the burning hot eggs down my throat. I know it's not very ladylike, but I'm not trying to impress anyone. I seriously have the stomach of a growing teenage boy.
"Nobody is going to steal your omelet," my dad teases. "You can slow down."
"I see you eyeing my cheesy goodness over there. Don't take me as a fool, I know you're planning a stealthy breakfast kidnapping," I mumble through a mouthful of food. He chuckles shaking his head at me. I hear a car honk from outside. "Got to go dad, have a good day at work," I grab my school bag from beside me and run behind the counter to give dad a kiss goodbye.
"Have a good day at school. Love you, baby."
"Love you too," I shout before running out the door. Olivia, my bestfriend, waves her hands at me gesturing me to hurry up. I throw myself into the passenger seat of her black Toyota Corolla.
"Kayla, we have an emergency," she tells seriously as she pulls out of my driveway.
"What happened? Please tell me nobody is dying. Is it your cat? Oh no, please tell me little Nora isn't sick. Oh god, I just love her so much," I ramble on nervously. Last time she told me there was an emergency her fish Rico died.
May the little guy rest in peace.
"Shut up woman! Do I need to pull over and smack you?" Olivia pauses until I anxiously shake my head. "Alrighty, so I got us invited to Oliver Harrison's party on Friday and I don't know what to wear."
"That is the big emergency? You scared me to death! Don't do that to me," I grasp my chest dramatically. "I don't see why this is an issue, it's not like we are actually going to go." Olivia sucks in a breath not saying anything. "No. Olivia, tell me you did not tell him we were going?"
"I may have said we would make an appearance."
This woman is going to be the death of me. I swear. She knows my dad is totally against parties. He doesn't want me surrounded by a bunch of horny teenagers getting drunk and letting their hormones take control. I'm also not jumping with excitement to go to a party. I would much rather chill at home and have a Harry Potter marathon.
"I'm not going," I say firmly. She pulls into the school parking lot which is packed with students chatting to their friends before the bell rings.
