"Take it!" Lucas yells in my ear forcing a cooler in my hand.

My best friends have already started their second drink while I have yet to open my first. Not to mention they have already done a few shots.

"Let loose Kayla!" Lucas hollers in my ear before racing over to play beer pong. Lucas is the world's worst beer pong player. He never gets it in the cup. One time he even hit his opponent in the forehead by accident. I chuckle at the memory. Megan Greene was not happy about that. She had marched right over to him and dumped a cup of beer all over his head.

"Didn't expect to see you here," I whip around to see Henry Miller. He's wearing dark wash jeans with a pale blue shirt that is quite flattering on him.

"My bestfriend is very convincing," I shrug. "If I didn't come willingly, she would have dragged me here by my ankles." I notice him scanning my body up and down carefully. I can feel the pink tinge rising on my cheeks.

"That dress looks nice on you," he comments making my face heat up more.

"Uh, thank you," I mumble.

Why am I the most awkward person ever? Most ladies would die for the chance to talk to Henry. Meanwhile, I can't be flirtatious even if someone gave me lessons. The only thing I can turn on is the TV. Otherwise, I'm just hopeless.

I pop the top off of the bottle taking a long swig of my drink. I guess I lose the bet. They say alcohol is liquid courage right? I'm definitely going to need some of that to make it through this night without having an anxiety attack or just stop living due to my unbelievable lack of social skills.

"Did you're dad give you a hard time the other night?" It takes me a second to realize he is referring to the night at McDonald's. Is he trying to make conversation with me? How strange is that. There is room full of half naked dancing girls that could easily be mistaken as strippers, yet he is choosing to talk to me who could easily pass as a nun on most days?

"I guess you could say that. I had to listen to his lecture, but other than that I got off pretty easy," I inform him as Daniel strolls over to us slinging an arm around Henry.

"Hey buddy, Jared and Tommy are going to have a drinking competition to see who can down the most shots in a minute. You have got to come see this," he begins to steer Henry away.

"I'll catch you later," he smiles at me before disappearing into the crowd of people.

I guess we were done talking... that didn't take long.

I weave my way around people to find a nice corner to stand in. It's the perfect place to observe the crowd. I stay there for a while until my entire body is covered in a thin layer of sweat. I feel so sticky which is not sexy at all. I decide it's time to go on an adventure to the bathroom to freshen up a little. Shoving through the crowd I find the bathroom on the main floor, but of course it's locked. I don't bother waiting. There is more that one person in there and it sounds like they are going to be a while.

Gross.

Eventually I discover an empty bathroom upstairs and quickly claim it locking the door behind me. I splash cold water on my face and instantly feeling refreshed. What was the point of me coming to the party anyways? I fought with my dad to stand here alone all night. I look up at my reflection. Lucas' words replay in my head,

"Let loose Kayla".

Maybe for once he's right. I never let my guard down and forget about the consequences.

"You are going to have a good time. You are going to go out there and have fun," I order myself. I throw the door open with determination to make this a night to remember.
