Chapter 2

Bearpaw

He led the way to Magic Falls. Mysteryheart was at his side, silently walking. He wanted to tell her exactly how he felt about her.

I don't want to start quarreling with Bunnyclaw, I've got her trust now and I want to keep it! her words echoed in his mind.

They made it to Magic Falls. A cool breeze went by showing that leaf-fall had come and leaf-bare was soon to be there. "Why'd you chose this place? It's not new-leaf anymore!" she protested.

He frowned. "Our first walk was here and-"

"You know a lot more dogs are here at this time," she interrupted with a scowl. Why is she being so mean? What did StarClan say to her to make her act like this to me? he asked himself.

Bearpaw gave her furious blinks. "Let me tell you something...."

Her eyes widened. "What's that?"

"Before you excepted me as your future mate, I saw what a was going on..." he began his revenge.

She stared deeply at him. No pain at all like when he first saw her. "What's that?"

Bearpaw continued his revenge. "You and that Cloudyrain. Even when I was a pup I saw what was happening."

He felt shock flow through her body. "That ShadowClan warrior lied to me and tried to make it seem like he did nothing wrong!" she stated angrily.

"You still were breaking the warrior code!" he started to get angry.

Her eyes saddened. "I-I n-never ever wanted to. Ever!" she sniffed out and a tear slowly slid from her eye.

He began feeling bad. "I'm sorry. I didn't want any lies between us. We're going to be mates, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't a young dog imagining these      things...."

"You weren't!" she spat. "If you don't like my decisions and not want to be with me then I understand..."

He smiled. "I couldn't ask for anything better! You are the best, Mysteryheart! I love you more than anyone else. You are honest, loving, and caring. What more could I ask for?"

He felt her press into his fur. "I love you too."

The sun was setting when he went to his mother. "Bunnyclaw..." he started while she turned to face him. "I'm sorry for acting the way I did earlier. I needed to know some things with Mysteryheart. I'm ready to listen now."

His mother smiled. "I understand. You aren't my annoying little boy anymore... I miss my little pup that's all. I needed to tell you something but now I think is a better time."

His heart thudded with scared excitement. "What is it?"

"Both of your sisters have white cough. The supply on herbs is really low... There may be a slight chance they'll die," she said in a sob.

"They can't just die!" he wailed and ran to the medicine den.

"Redfang!" he said as she blocked his way.

Redfang stood infront of him. "Poppypaw and Cloudpaw can't be visited. They're way to sick. If someone catches their sickness the whole Clan could die!"

He stopped and turned around. Bunnyclaw looked at him and then to Redfang. He went to the apprentices' den. Graypaw and Flowerpaw lay in their nests talking. He only laid himself down and fell asleep.

"Bearpaw, wake up! Wake up!!!" a voice interrupted his sleep.

When he opened his eyes he saw Flameheart. "What?" he asked blinking sleep away from his eyes.

Flameheart looked seriously at him. He had his mentoring face on. "We have a moon high patrol. Oh and look here! It's moon high!!!"

Graystar was eating at the side. The leader beckoned him with her tail. "Well I need to speak with Graystar real quick."

Flameheart nodded and Bearpaw walked away. "Yes Graystar?"

"Have you told Mysteryheart?"

"No! I'm leaving you to do what you have to do! I respect your decision for her, you are my leader!" he reminded her.
