Mysteryheart

~Three moons later~

Cold winds blew as the white snow fell. Mysteryheart was sheltering herself in the warriors den. Bearpaw had been told he couldn't go in the warriors' den until he became a warrior. She was all alone in the warrior life.

Sunstorm lay beside Snowball. They both had just got back from a patrol. Sunstorm licked her pelt dry. Love went through the den and Mysteryheart was all alone in there. Redtail brushed past others.

"Come here," he told her.

"No," she answered. Her teeth chattered and her body shivered.

Redtail looked serious towards her. "Come here. You need warmth and you know I'm right."

She shivered again. "Y-you ar-aren't m-my ma-mate anymore!"

His eyes were concerned when he said. "Look. I know you aren't in love with me anymore and have found someone that makes you happy. I'm glad that you found your person... Just let's get you warm... Even if you don't care for me I care for you and I don't want you to freeze to death...."

I'd rather freeze! she thought. Would I rather freeze? I shouldn't hold a grudge! If he cares for me then why should I neglect his care? She cuddled him and let his warmth go through her.

She felt sleep coming over her. Mysteryheart laid herself down. Redtail curled his body around hers. Before she knew it she was asleep and dreaming.

Mysteryheart was chasing a rabbit when she was awoken. Bearpaw and Graystar were there when her eyes opened. Redtail was still curled around her when she woke. The snow seemed to have stopped but stacks of snow still remained.

"What do you guys need?" she asked.

Graystar glanced at Bearpaw and answered, "We need you to return to medicine dog duties."

A growl rumbled in her throat. "Why? I'm a warrior now." she replied simply.

Bearpaw eyes shown sorrow. "My sisters; they're sick, Berrypaw doesn't know what to do and Redfang needs someone to help her. I don't want my sisters to die! Please help them!"

"Yes," Graystar nodded. "Berrypaw will handle us out here and refill herbs and will go to the Moon Pool with Redfang. Unless you want to go, of coarse."

She smiled. "I can do some help. But you guys will need a medicine dog here on the half-moon, right? On these cold winters you need to make sure everyone is safe. If they aren't then they could get an infection..." she pressed to convince them.

Bearpaw looked unsure of what she meant. "So you will help?"

"Yes I will help, my love," her eyes glowed.

She lifted her body and woke Redtail accidentally. But when she thought about it, it most likely was on purpose. Mysteryheart walked over to Bearpaw and pressed against him. She continued with licks of love.

"I'm glad to help you my dear apprentice," she smothered him.

He lifted up his chin. "I'm going to be a warrior soon..." he reminded.

In the corner of her eye she saw Redtail wrinkle his nose and go the other way out of the warriors' den. "When that happens you'll be my little warrior," she stated with a lick on his ear.

Bearpaw walked out of the den and left Graystar and her to talk. "Let's go to my den," Graystar ordered.

She nodded and quickly followed her. The top of the leader's cave was covered in snow. The staircase also covered in snow. They walked up the icy steps and went into the cave.

When she entered she felt a cool breeze go through her fur. She shivered. "What do you mean?"

"By what?" the leader had confused her.

"By needing a medicine dog here on the half-moon?"

"Oh by that. Right. Well I was thinking after one half-moon of being there then Berrypaw and Redfang can stay here and I go alone," she began. "I'm not fully trained but I've got StarClan by my side. And if it wasn't for my destiny I would have been excepted."

Graystar stared blankly at her. "So you want to go to the Moon Pool without anyone else?"

"Right!" she agreed.

The leader began to lay herself down. "You'll have to speak with Redfang about that. But in the meantime, can you go get Mosspelt for me?"
