I told you so | Auston Matthews

Chapter 7

Meant to be blasts throughout the truck as Mitch drives down back roads. Auston and I scream the lyrics as Mitch laughs at our stupidness.

Gardiner and his wife are hosting a bonfire party at their getaway house.

"Hey!" Gardiner's wife Lucy screamed as she seen me. Lucy and I hang out at the games. She is super sweet.

"Hey girl." I say as I hug her.

Jake and the other guys take Mitch and Auston to the fire to drink beers. Now I know I'm the designated driver.

"Lets go down by the lake!" Will yells excitedly, as he runs.

There's a lake behind Jake and Lucy's house. It has a tire swing tied to the tree. The guys laugh and follow Will. Will is drunk, but luckily he didn't get hurt when he ran.

I follow next to Auston. We decided to stay back from the rest of the guys and their girlfriends.

"It's so pretty out here." I say looking at the stars and the full moon. Auston looks up at the sky, he's eyes are amazed.

"Wow, it is beautiful but not as beautiful as you." He says whispering into my ear.

Red grows on my cheeks as we reach the lake. Half the guys are in the lake as the other half just laugh at their teammates.

We sit on a giant rock as we just sit in silence. Not an awkward silence, a comfortable silence as crickets can be heard in the distance. Grabbing Auston's hand as he smiles.

We haven't made anything official yet because we don't want to ruin our friendship. But deep down I know he's the one I want to spend my life with.

I feel bad for not telling Mitch about Auston and I but Auston and I aren't officially together.

"Hey guys I-" a voice says from behind us.

Auston and I look to see a surprised Mitch. He has a confused look on his face but also hurt. The pain in his eyes are clear, but he tries to mask it.

"Are you two a thing?" He asked pointing at the two of us.

"Kind of," I say.

"Cool," He says bitterly but not trying to seem angry.

Auston is oblivious to Mitch's act, but I see what Mitch really means.

"Are you guys ready to go?" Mitch asks.

"Did you think Mitch seemed different?" I asked Auston as I lay my head on him.

"No, what do you mean?" He asked surprised.

"I just thought he seamed off that's all." I say looking up at Auston.

Auston and I continued to watch tv but I couldn't help but think of Mitch. I have a feeling he likes me.
