Chapter 2: History

"What do you want to see me about?" I asked in a firm voice determined not to show any sign of fear even though I was shitting myself on the inside.
"Something private," Valerie said.

Charlotte warned me, "Don't go Maddie." I silently got up and followed Valerie and Justin despite Charlotte's warning. The two took me out into the hallway.
"We know who you are. You're Red Mage." Valerie stated.
"Who? What are you talking about?" I asked.
"You know exactly what we're talking about," Valerie replied.
"No. I don't."
"Yes you do. Stop lying to us and yourself."
"I'm not lying. I'm telling you the truth."
"You. Are. Lying." Maybe if I told them I was lying they would explain what is going on and leave me alone.
"Fine. I'm lying," I say.
"We knew you would cave." Justin said. I start to leave. Justin grabs my wrist and yanks me back. "Now that you know we know who you are, the Dark Mage wants you and the others by his side by the end of the trip when the clock strikes midnight the day we get back." Justin said.
"Wait. What trip?"
"All in good time, babe. All in good time."
"Don't call me babe," I finish before going back to the cafeteria.

Miss Orabelle is possibly the best teacher in the universe. She's tall, young- 28 to be exact- super fun, carefree, and has blond hair and green eyes. Her last name is French and it means golden beautiful, which fits her physical apperance and personality amazingly. She is our history teacher and she's always taking us on trips, so I wouldn't be surprised if she is the one organizing the trip Justin was talking about. What were Justin and Valerie talking about? They were calling me something, Red Mage. What does that even mean? What is a mage and who is this Dark Mage? Although, I'm not too sure I want to find out. And lastly, who are the others? Were Justin and Valerie talking about Charlotte and Felicity? Do they have something to do with this? Well whatever it is, I'll just have to get it out of them later.
"Good morning class!" Miss Orabelle said slightly peppier than usual.

"Hello Miss Orabelle." We all said with a little bit of actual excitement.

"Guess what?" She sang.
"What?" I said.
"We're going to... FRANCE!!" She announced. We all broke out into excited conversation at this. I mean we have gone to Washington D.C. and New York as a class before, but we haven't gone anywhere out of the country!
"Alright, alright." Miss Orabelle said as she tried to calm us down. As soon as we quieted down, she continued. "I've already contacted your parents and arranged everything. Everyone is able to attend and your flights have already been taken care of. Since today is Friday, we leave on Monday and come back in two weeks. No homework will be issued this weekend since you have to prepare for the trip. Just come to school with your suitcase and meet in the parking lot where the bus is. Now, for the trip you will all be put into groups to be safe, but you will also be assigned a buddy incase you need to separate from the group. Listen up!"
We were all dead silent as we prepared for the worst partners.
"Maddie and Zach," YES! I'm mentally doing a happy dance.
"Charlotte and Vince," Wow, good for Charlotte! She always had a small crush on him! I can imagine her blushing and keeping her head forward, and as I looked behind me, I saw I was right.
"Felicity and Tyler, Caleb and Hunter, Sarah and Avery, Lexi and Jake, Valerie and Justin..." The list continued on and I just prayed that Valerie and Justin wouldn't be in my group. "Every three pairs will be in groups together." I was happy I didn't have to deal with Valerie or Justin, but I didn't want to be separated from the rest of my friends. Don't get me wrong. I'm ecstatic to get Char and Fel in my group, that way I can grill them later, but I still enjoy my other friends' company. It would just be nice to have Avery, Sarah, and Lexi in my group as well. Then all would be right in the world. And with that the final bell rings and we are home free.
Once again, me and Fel are waiting for Avery and Charlotte. They have some Fashion Club meeting or something. Those small meetings take about 5 minutes so me and Fel just sit in the courtyard and talk.
Fel starts, "So Maddie any st-"
"Shut the fuck up. Its Zach." I clamp my hand over her mouth as Zach walks by with Vince.
"Oh, okay" Felicity's muffled voice says in shock. I let my shoulders relax as I realize they're just walking to Zach's car.
"False alarm." I say as I take my hand off of her mouth.
"Well that was a little weird." Felicity states. And then I remembered what happened earlier. "Do you wanna know what's even weirder?" I start. "Being called Red Mage."
"What are you talking about?"
"When Justin and Valerie were talking to me in the hallway, they were calling me Red Mage and also saying something about a Dark Mage. What even is a mage anyway?"
"A mage is a magician, wizard, or sorcerer." Felicity answered.
"Why would they call me a mage then?"
"I don't know." Charlotte and Avery's meeting ended and Char drove Fel and I to my house. On the way, I told Char what me and Felicity talked about earlier.
"I don't get it," Charlotte started, "why would Justin and Valerie act all normal all this time and then just walk up to you one day and tell you you're a mage?"
"That's what we're trying to figure out!" I shouted. "Whatever, it's probably just a prank, knowing how evil Justin and Valerie are" I continued.
"But that would be so cool if you were a mage!" Charlotte exclaimed.

"Yeah I guess."
"Let's just focus on the trip. Even though it IS a trip, we still have a paper on all of the attractions we visit due when we come back." Felicity refocused us.
Since we were going to Paris, France, the first thing that was on our list was the Eiffel Tower. Then of course the Garden of Bagatelle, Palace of Versailles (AN: I know it's outside of Paris but whatever), the Catacombs of Paris, the Notre Dame de Paris, and the Disneyland Paris, because Disneyland is awesome. No other possible explantation.
The three of us spend the rest of the evening playing video games, listening to music, and watching videos at Charlotte's house. We had planned to stay at her house for the night so we had all our stuff in her room.
By 2:00 in the morning, we were all tired, and we had no school tomorrow (thank god it was Friday), so we just turned on the TV and watched it until we fell asleep.
