*Leslie's P.O.V.*
Ever experienced one of these days when you have such an excitement for your outing that you start getting ready like five hours earlier? I have been so thrilled about my date with Drake that I scheduled an entire "spa day" for myself; you know, putting on a clay mask, relaxing with a bath bomb in a perfectly warm-watered bath, shaving my legs for once carefully enough not to cut my poor skin, not to forget my armpits... Do you forget about them too sometimes or is it just me?
Great, just me. Alright then...
To be honest I felt really bad for being happy when something so sad and unfair was happening in Drake's family. Azura had started growing in me and in this situation I felt like a hypocrite. After someone passes away, people always say 'she wouldn't want you crying over her' or 'he would want to see you smile and remember your happy times together', but the truth is, that's what we tell ourselves to stop feeling guilty for not thinking about them all the time. You can't know what they would want you to do. I know I'd want my family to at least think of me. It's mean, yes, but if they won't be heartbroken was I even in their heart?
My phone rang unexpectedly, waking me from my dark thoughts. I quickly put my makeup sponge down and answered the call.
"Hey, hun," I greeted Mia.
"Why am I only finding out about your life of a teen fiction now?!" She yelled through the phone. Although with such a volume I would have heard her loud and clear even if we weren't on the phone.
"I'm so sorry I didn't distract you from making me a niece," I answered sarcastically, insinuating her busy of a sex life.
"First of all, my first child is going to be a boy-"
"Oh, you've ordered it right? What about eyes? Hair colour? Can you choose that too, or..?"
"Ha, ha," she commented on my joke and continued, "now tell me or I'll come to your house and lock us in your room until I've learnt everything."
I spent the rest of my time left talking about everything that happened during the past few days. Unexpectedly enough, she didn't interrupt me once, apart from gasping and awwing once or twice. She even got to tell me about her R-rated adventures with Justin, but to my luck I had to hang up as Drake had arrived.
"Mum, I'm leaving," I kissed her goodbye and reached for my keys.
"Leslie, wait," she run from the couch and over to the door, blocking my way out. She blushed – or got red from her unusual workout – and smiled.
"Don't make me do this," I pleaded while shutting my eyes and pinching the bridge of my nose.
"Pleeaase," she begged. "I might be leaving for my business trip soon and who knows how long you're gonna last."
"Thanks mum, really," I rolled my eyes and signalled that she comes with me. As soon as we got out of the house I saw Azura in the back seat of the car and Drake standing by it. As soon as he saw my mum he straightened himself and fixed his shirt. I heard my mum chuckle and turned to give her a 'behave' kinda look.
"Hey..." I went in for a hug as soon as we got closer. "This is my mum," I introduced her to both Drake and Azura. "She wanted to meet you so bad, I'm sorry," I felt myself getting hotter and hotter every second.
"Don't be, it's nice to meet you," he stuck his hand out for my mum to shake.
"Nice to meet you too, Drake," she smiled. "Is that your mum?" She waved at Azura, making her open her window and wave back.
"Grandma," I let Drake answered proudly.
"Ah, she's so young to be a grandma," my clueless mum commented. I saw Drake hold back from showing his sadness and took it as my cue to shoo her back inside.
"Time to go," I patted her head and nodded my head towards the door.
"Have fun," she waved one last time and walked towards the house.
"I'm really sorry about that," I went in for another hug.
"Don't be. She was just stating the obvious," he said after kissing my head. "My grandma is a hotty."
He then walked towards the passenger side of the car and opened the door.
I shook my head. "I'm sitting at the back with Azura," I winked at her.
"Ow, you're leaving me alone?"
"Sorry, I like her more than you," I chuckled and climbed inside.
We arrived to the doctor's office soon afterwards. I could feel the mood getting heavier and heavier by every step we took closer to it. I didn't go in with them. I sat on the cold leather couch in the waiting room and watched the doctor through his stained glass door. His figure stood straight as if he had swallowed a stick and his eyebrows kept still as if he felt no emotions. I could see his arm moving as he looked down. Maybe he was writing a prescription. Maybe he found a drug to cure Azura's illness.
They didn't take long to come out. Both with swollen eyes, Azura's body practically hanging from Drake's arm. He glanced at me and tried giving me a small smile.
"You don't have to," my voice so quiet I doubt he heard me. Tears had started forming in my eyes too and I run to Azura's side for help. "I'm here," I caressed her hand with my thumb.
"I want to go home, I'm so s-sorry," her voice cracked.
We didn't think twice before carrying her to the car and driving to Drake's house. His mum had just parked her car and as soon as she saw us she ran to her mother's embrace. They took her inside as I locked the car and parked my butt on the front porch.
Maybe I should go. It's not the right time for romances. Drake needs to be with his family and although Azura need me to take his mind off of the sad reality, I couldn't let him waste his last days with his grandma on me.
I got up and started walking away when he called me. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before turning to face him. He was already in front of me when our eyes met.
"Were you about to ditch me again?" He chuckled lightly making a tear fall on his cheek and run down his face until it left to meet the ground.
Right then a scene from a telenovela, I think it's name was Floricienta, appeared in my mind. There was this girl up on a castle crying and we followed her tear falling slowly, and as it was about to land on a hand, that same hand turned palm upwards and caught the tear. But wait, that's not it. The tear had transformed into a crystal and was now a treasure for someone to keep.
I really don't know why this memory has been kept in my brain. It must have been over ten years since I saw this scene. No matter how many episodes I've searched through, I can't find it.
Please tell me if you do. Really.
"Les," I felt a hand cup my cheek.
I looked into Drakes eyes and froze.
"What?"
"I asked if you were about to ditch me," he repeated now with a glimpse of worry in his eyes.
"Drake," I sighed and looked away. "You need to spend time with your family right now." I stated although I wished he could still see me in the picture.
"Listen, Leslie," he gently grabbed the lower back of my head forcing me to make eye contact. "If I didn't think you were important enough for me to spend my time with, trust me, you wouldn't be here. I don't like using people and I certainly don't waste their time if either of us isn't enjoying the company," he leaned closer. "So tell me, Leslie," he whispered. "Can I waste your time?"
And with that I closed the gap between us and sealed my concent with a kiss.
