Life is Short

Life is short
Living it a year at a time
Is that how it's meant to be?
Taking things as they come at you
And constantly having to brace yourself for the next impact
Living in fear of the next person to try and pry open your heart
For you vowed to yourself that you would keep that lock shut
And throw that damned key away
But here you are
Handing that shit away again
Desperate for it to work again
Desiring for someone to stay longer than a few months
Tired of being recycled
Used over and over again
And thrown away
When will it change
This cycle
But you can't really complain, can you?
Because you keep doing to yourself
Keep putting yourself in the crossfire
And your heart left riddled

Life is short
I understand that
You want love
Need it
But stop giving yourself up to every guy/girl willing to give you a small piece of their attention
Stop trying to find love in sex and affection in desire
It won't work
It never does
Take it from me
Life will find you someone
And you will know
Until then
Survive and thrive
Keep going
And stay futurebound
For that is where you are meant to be
Not the past
Where your mistakes live
Do not dwell there
Taking one step forward and two steps back
Live a life you will be proud of when you are on deaths bed
One you won't regret
One that you'll look back on and smile
Despite the hardships and the sadness
Despite the setbacks and the doubt
You made it
You made it...
