Liam had just kissed me and I didn’t know how to react, when we pulled away. I searched his face for clues as to how he was feeling, as I could feel my face getting hot. A smile formed on his lips. ‘You’re blushing,’ he said, stroking my cheek. I hid my face in my hands, but Liam pulled them away. ‘You are so cute when you’re being shy.’ ‘Am not.’ ‘You are, though,’ he said, kissing the tip of my nose. I laid my head down on his chest and he interlaced our hands. I have never felt this safe before. I couldn’t help but think about my old life; my parents, my foster-parents, Daniel… How could things all go so completely wrong? ‘What’re you thinking about,’ Liam whispered into my hair. ‘What if we didn’t meet?’ He seemed to be thinking and just when he was about to answer, the boys walked in. ‘Where’s Niall?’ Harry asked immediately. ‘Nice to see you too, Harry,’ I chuckled. ‘Wait! You are holding hands and hugging! What did I miss?!’ he said, pointing his finger at both of us. Zayn and Louis shook their heads as they laughed. ‘Well, I guess we really like each other.’ I looked over at Liam as I said that to see him smile in return. ‘Aww!’ Zayn and Louis teased. ‘Oh, and Niall’s in my room, but better knock first, he’s with his girlfriend,’ I said, wiggling my eyebrows. ‘Wow, we really missed a lot,’ Zayn chuckled. ‘Yeah, a lot of drama happening lately. How’s Angie, by the way?’ ‘She was asleep when we left, we took really good care of her, don’t worry,’ Louis said and looked at Harry. ‘Harry really likes her.’ ‘Yeah, she’s the cutest. I guess I’ll have to take care of her when you’re busy with your boyfriend over there.’ I looked away shyly and Liam pulled me closer against him. There was a knock on the door before the doctor walked in with a file. ‘Good news, Mr. Payne. The results of your tests are in and they all seem to be good. Of course you’ll be sore, but I am sure that you’ll be fine if you take it slow. I prescribed some painkillers and that should be enough. Please come back as soon as anything doesn’t feel right.’ Liam nodded and smiled, and I heard one of the boys sigh in relief. ‘Thanks doctor.’ The doctor shook his hand and then looked at me. ‘As for you. You can go home too, but we need to talk first, you know that,’ he said as the smile disappeared. ‘We’ll go outside for a moment,’ Harry said, Louis and Zayn following. Liam also tried to get up, but I gently pushed him back. ‘Please stay,’ I whimpered. I suddenly felt so fragile again. ‘Are you ready to tell me who it was?’ the doctor asked. I nodded and felt a giant lump in my throat. ‘It was… It was…’ ‘Go on, tell him, it’s okay,’ Liam whispered, rubbing soothing circles on my back. ‘It was my boyfriend. Ex-boyfriend, actually… Daniel Ferguson,’ I said, before letting out a sob. ‘You know we have to report this to the police, right?’ ‘I understand. He needs to be punished and I need a fresh start…’ I said, wiping away a tear. ‘I’ll go contact the police, can you wait here for a moment, please?’ A sigh of relief, but also sadness escaped. My Daniel had treated me so bad and I still couldn’t believe it. Liam pulled me onto his lap. ‘It’s okay, baby, you deserve so much better. I’d never hurt you. Never ever.’ I smiled at him through teary eyes and kissed his lips. When I put my head back on his chest, he softly started singing to me. ‘I wanna save you, I wanna save your heart tonight. I can’t be no superman, but for you I’ll be superhuman.’ What would I do without Liam?

With Alyssa buried in my arms, I think about the previous conversation with Demi. ‘It bothers you, doesn’t it?’ she asked. Was it that obvious that I felt so guilty about this entire situation? ‘Yeah, well, it really bothers me that she was hurt all this time and I didn’t even see it. I should’ve saved her from him…’ The guilty feeling tried to take over again, but Alyssa could sense it and sat up. ‘Babe, don’t blame yourself, you couldn’t help it. You didn’t know…’ I nodded. She’s right, I didn’t know. I don’t know much about her, I suddenly realized. ‘You’re right, but it still hurts. I thought the two of us had a strong bond together, but after all this time, I didn’t even knew a thing about her.’ ‘I understand, Ni, but how could you have known? She obviously wasn’t ready to tell. She was just too scared and I don’t blame her after everything that has happened to her. I mean; mother gone, dad in prison, foster parents and a boyfriend that hits and kicks her out of the house in a foreign country?’ I could tell that Alyssa really felt for Demi and that was a good sign, since I wanted to keep both of them in my life. ‘You’re right, she must have felt so alone…’ I said and tried to hold back my tears. ‘I mean, I don’t think her foster parents even know she’s here. I picked up her phone once and it was the weirdest conversation ever.’ ‘So you’re saying she’s on the other side of the world and her foster parents don’t even know?!’ Her mouth fell open as I nodded. My eyes fell on Demi’s phone. Should I call them?

I’m still safe in Liam’s arms as he kept on singing. ‘Under the lights tonight, turned around and you stole my heart with just one look. When I saw your face, I fell in love, took a minute girl, to steal my heart tonight…’ I couldn’t suppress the smile and blush creeping upon my face. I turned away shyly, but Liam was onto me and turned me back to face him. ‘You don’t know-oh-oh, you don’t know you’re beautiful…’ I giggled at him. ‘You’re so cheesy, Li,’ I said, pecking his lips. Right at this moment there was a knock on the door. I untangled myself out of Liam’s arms and sat up straight. ‘Come in.’ Two officers walk in and introduced themselves to us. ‘We’re here to talk about the… incident,’ one of them said. ‘Do you want me to tell you everything?’ ‘Everything that’s necessary, yes,’ the other said, grabbing a note block and a pen. I took a deep breath. ‘Well, it all started when…’ I told them about Daniel and when he started to get violent, about him kicking me out and the boys letting me stay with them. ‘Thank you, that’ll be all. We will deal with the rest, you are safe now.’ After we said our thanks to the officers, I sighed in relief and looked at Liam who was smiling at me. ‘It’s over… It’s finally over,’ I said, still not believing it. I wouldn’t have to see Daniel again. My eyes filled up with tears of joy as I hugged Liam. ‘Thank you. For everything.’ Liam kissed the top of my head. ‘Anything for you, babe.’ ‘I have to go tell the guys the good news!’ I said, excitedly. Liam let me go and I ran out of the room. I found the boys sitting on some chairs in the waiting-room of this area. ‘Guys, great news: I told the police and they’ll put charges against Daniel. No more Daniel! No more drama!’ I yelled excitedly and threw my hands in the air. Harry engulfed me in a hug and spun me around. Louis and Zayn also hugged me. They were all just so relieved that this was over. I pulled them all in for a group hug. ‘Thanks for everything guys. I’d be completely lost without you!’ They said I meant the same to them and it warmed my heart. ‘Now I gotta find Niall and tell him the good news too!’
Once I was in my room, I saw Alyssa on my bed watching TV, but Niall wasn’t there. ‘Where’s Nialler?’ I asked her. She was startled and got of my bed immediately, as if she had invaded my privacy. ‘Oh hi! He’s makes some phone calls.’ ‘Oh, okay. Don’t be shy, you can lay down. What’re you watching?’ I asked, smiling. ‘Just an episode of The Vampire Diaries,’ she smiled and scooted over so I could lay down next to her. ‘You watch Vampire Diaries? Man, I love that! Team Stefan or Damon?’ I ask, grinning. ‘I’d say team Damon.’ ‘Good answer! I like you already!’ I grinned. This could be the start of a wonderful friendship.
