Song: 'Morning in America' by Jon Bellion

Ellie POV:

I wake up to hear the piercing sound of my alarm. I moan as I turn it off. It then hits me: my first day at Midtown.

I quickly jump out of the bed and walk into the kitchen. Our new apartment is smaller than our last one, but we can't get anything too big, in case my dad gets moved somewhere else again.

There's a note on the table that says "Had to leave early :(. Have an amazing first day! Make some friends, be careful and don't get yourself into trouble! I'll be back before dinner. Love, Dad x". I smile to myself. He's always looking out for me.

I look up at the clock. Shit, it's 8:45! School starts at 9! I sprint back to my room and quickly scramble into some clothes. I grab my bag, purse, keys, phone and grab a croissant from the kitchen and head out the door, locking it behind me.

Luckily I don't live too far from the school, it's only a short walk. But me being me, I'm late, so my walk turns to a jog, then to a sprint. I can't be late on my first day, if I want to make a good impression.

(Skip to Ellie waiting to meet the principal)

I sit in a chair outside the principal's office, tapping my foot nervously. Suddenly the principal appears.

"Ah, you must be Ms. Ellie Florez! Come in!" He smiles welcoming me into his office. I smile awkwardly back as I walk into his office and sit down. He sits behind his desk and looks at a file on his desk.

"So you're from (choose hometown)?" He asks. I nod slowly. "And I see your father is in the military?".

"Yes" I reply.

"So you get moved around a lot, I presume?" He says closing the file.

"Yeah, it gets hectic" I laugh.

"Well, I hope we can make your experience here at Midtown an enjoyable one" he smiles. I nod again. God I'm so awkward. He gets up to hand me a piece of paper.

"Now this is your timetable and your locker combination. Now, I did have someone organized to show you around, but....hang on" he says as he walks out of his office.

Wait, do I stay here? I get up and follow him anyway. "Janet, where is Parker?" He asks what looks like a secretary. She shrugs.

Suddenly, a boy bursts through the door looking very out of breath. "I'm so sorry sir. I had an......uh.....errand! Yeah an errand to run!" He explains.

"Well, you're here at least" the principal sighs, "Peter, this is Ellie. Ellie, this is Peter. He's going to show you around". My heart flutters a little.

He's so gorgeous! He has cute brown curly hair and brown eyes and.......oh no. I'm blushing. Ugh, so much for a great first impression.

I smile awkwardly at him. He reaches out to shake my hand and smiles "nice to meet you Ellie". When our hands touch, it gives me goosebumps. When he smiles he gets these cute dimples.

"So Ellie, I wish you the best of luck on your first day. Peter, you show her to her locker and to her classes and what not, until she's familiar with everything" the principal says. "Thank you" I say as I leave the office.

"So your locker is this way, across from mine" he says, guiding me down the hall. I'm so shy and I don't know what to say, so I just nod and follow him.

"So where are you from?" He asks me.

"Oh.......uh.......(your hometown)" I stutter. He smiles at me, which gives me butterflies.

"What's your first class?" He asks, peering at my timetable.

"Physics" I say, praying he has the same class as me.

"Well, I'm headed there too! Actually, I think we're in all the same classes" he says.

Inside, I'm doing my extravagant happy dance, but outside, I laugh awkwardly and say "Well at least I know someone!". He smiles at me. Ugh, he's making me blush again.

If he's going to show me around, how am I gonna cope? He probably already thinks I'm a freak.

I wander aimlessly around trying to find somewhere to sit, but then I hear someone shout "Ellie sit with us!".

I turn around and see Peter with another guy, motioning me to sit beside him. OMG, is he serious?! I walk quickly over to them and sit across the table from them.

"Ellie, this is Ned" he says, introducing me to the guy beside him.

"Hey" I say shyly.

"So how are you liking here so far?" Ned asks me. He seems nice enough.

"Okay I guess" I reply.

"Oh Peter! I was meaning to ask you, do you wanna hang out and study later? You're welcome too Ellie" he says. My throat tightens a bit. I quickly shake my head.

"Sorry, I've got a thing after school" I say, smiling apologetically.

"Oh okay. What about you Peter?" Ned says looking at Peter.

"Nah, Sorry. I've got stuff to do too" he says, looking down at his lunch.

"Maybe another time I guess" Ned says sadly. I feel really bad, being rude like that. But they can't find out about......the thing. It's too much of a risk.

The bell rings for us all to go back to class. "I'll see you guys later" I smile as I rush off to my next class.

(Skip to the end of day)

The last bell rings and I hurry out the main gate. Weirdly, I see Peter already out, running off. "Jeez, why is he in such a hurry?" I mutter to myself. But I don't have much time to be thinking about him, as much as I would love to. I've got my own stuff to do.
