Lapis POV

Thank God Mrs. Green declined Mom's dinner party request Lapis thought as she walked out to the back garden. She did this whenever she was in a troubled mood, or if she was upset and needed to cry.

Lapis had told her mom not to invite the Green's for dinner, but of course she didn't listen to her. Lapis really didn't want them coming over because that would mean she would have to sit next to Peridot.

Lapis didn't like Peridot for many reasons. First, she was so nerdy and never talked to anyone. In the very few times they had talked, she said very few words like "Get out of my way" or "Stupid Lazulis". Not that Lapis cared. The less she had to interact with Peridot the better.

Lapis continued her walk over to the garden. She was about to sit down by the roses and sketch (probably a dolphin or maybe a whale) when she hears a noise behind her. She turned just in time so see a crying Peridot bump into her and fall, sending them both to the ground, faces inches apart.

Peridot let out a squeak jumped up off of Lapis, straitening her glasses.

"Aaahhh!" Lapis yelled, startled by Peridot's unfamiliar presence. "What are you doing here?! Are you here to kidnap me? TP our house? Break in and-" Lapis stopped, noticing the tears coming out of Peridot's eyes and how red they were from crying.

Lapis hated it when people cried. She just felt so bad, even if she knew that it wasn't her fault. She just had to help them. And even though Peridot was literally like the worst person she could've run into, it would break her to not help.

Peridot's POV

Lapis' expression softened, looking like she felt bad that Peridot was crying. "Are you okay?" Lapis asked her in a surprisingly soothing tone, compared to how she was just yelling at Peridot. "Do you need me to get you anything, like a tissue or something?"

Peridot crying so much she could even speak. She just nodded her head and Lapis ran into her house to get a tissue.

Peridot just sat there alone in the Lazuli's garden, pulling herself up onto the small wooden bench next to the roses.

Why is Lazuli helping me? She asked herself. She should have gone and got her mom, then they could've just yelled at me and and threw me out like that. Over and done with.

By now Peridot wasn't crying nearly as much, as so when Lapis came back with the tissue and she blew her nose, she could almost talk again.

"Why are you helping me?" Peridot asked with a confused face. "We're like enemies. I thought you hated me,"

"I don't hate you, I just avoid you at school," Lapis replied blankly.

"Mm hm. And that's a difference how?" Peridot sassed.

"Ya know, Peri, this was fun," Lapis stood up. "But I think I'm gonna go tell my parents of your arrival,"

Peridot froze "N-no!" She stuttered. "I'm s-sorry, I'm just not used to anyone trying to be nice to me. Most of the time kids at school are trying to trip me or trick me," She sighed. She knew she couldn't trust Lapis.

But then Lapis surprise her. "I'm sorry," She said. "I just don't like people sassing me is all,"

"I'm sorry too" Peridot apologized. "How about we just agree to be nice to one another. Maybe even friends," As soon as she said that Peridot regretted it. Lapis would never want to be he-

Lapis stuck her hand out. "Friends," She said.

Peridot hesitated for a moment before shaking Lapis' hand. "Okay," She said. "Friends,".

Lapis and Peridot releases each other's hand and just sat there in silence. Then Peridot got an idea.

"Um... this is a little weird, but do you want to go to the Big Donut with me? Their jelly filled is the bomb!" Peridot couldn't just believe what she said. 'The bomb'?! Since when did she say that? This girl was really doing something to her.

Lapis almost immediately agreed. "Sure. But I'm more of a chocolate filled myself," She grinned.

Peridot returned her grin "You're crazy!" she said as she jumped up from her seat and started walking towards the Big Donut, Lapis too jumping up and running to catch up to her new friend.

Peridot slowed down and waited for Lapis to catch up, the the two walked to the donut shop together hand in hand.

A/N: WOW. This is one of the longest chapters I've ever written. I know it's kinda short compared to other books, but I mostly write short chapters. Three should be coming out later this week.
