Chapter 1 The accident:
It was a regular Friday afternoon I had a musical play that day and I was leading in it. After it was over I told my parents that I would be going to Emily’s house afterward. Emily and I were just doing our nails when I got an unknown call.
“Hello?” I answered.
“Hello is this Elena Parker?” the person on the line asked.
“Yes this is Elena what can I do for you?”
“I’m so sorry to say this but you should get down to St. Louis hospital fast your parents were in a terrible accident,” the person on the line said, my phone slipped from my fingers and tumbled to the ground and a tear formed in my eye.
“Elena what happened,” Emily asked all concerned.
“My parents…hospital.”
“What lets go I’ll drive you there which hospital?” Emily said in a hurry.
“St. Louis,” was my reply and the next thing I know, I was in the hospital running to the reception desk.
“W-w-where are John and Ella Parker?” I stuttered.
“Are you related to them?”
“Yes I’m their daughter Elena could you please tell me where they are?”
“I’m so sorry Elena but you can’t meet them.”
“W-why can’t I meet them I’m their daughter!”
“You can see their bodies but they won’t react to anything.”
“Could you stop twisting things around and get to the point!” I said losing my patients.
“Elena sweetie your parents died in that car accident we couldn’t get them to the hospital in time,” those were that nurse’s exact words that made my whole world shatter into tiny little pieces. Emily next to me had her mouth dropped open and just stared at her unbelievingly and I felt her arms wrap around me.
“E-Elena are you okay why aren’t you saying anything,” she asked me.
“W-what am I suppose to say my p-parents are d-dead,” I said while finally letting the tears flow out of my eyes.
“W-what am I suppose to do I’m only 17 we were suppose to go to lunch together tomorrow.”
“Elena Parker?” a man asked pointing to me.
“Yes that’s her,” Emily answered for me.
“Would you still like to meet your parents you know last goodbyes I know how important those are?” he asked me and I nodded. He then lead the way to a room with two bodies laying in it covered by white sheets he then left me there for a little while. I just stood there by their bodies crying my eyes out.
A week later it’s my parents funeral and I can’t tell you how many people came up to me saying they are sorry about my loss I never got that, like why are you sorry is it your fault it happened and I have to stand there and smile like everything is okay. I’m now staying with Emily since I’m not 18 yet I can’t live by myself and I have my attorney looking for relatives I can stay with. School is starting in a few days and I can’t even think about what’s going to happen I use to be so excited knowing I’m about to be a senior and off to my dream college away from Shane Carter and Sabrina Wilson. That’s what I use to worry about but now everything has changed this was not what I expected my year to be like. Everyday I go to my parent’s gravestone sit on the floor and write in my diary about how miserable life is without them.
Today was the first day of school and Emily and I got dressed and headed out to her car.
“I can’t believe we’re seniors!” She said happily.
“Yup,” I said halfheartedly.
We arrived to the school, Emily parked the car and right when I got out the whole student body’s eyes were fixed on me which was exactly what I wanted to avoid. The rest of the day went by the same way every class I went in teachers would give me that pity look and students would just stare like I’m an angel coming down from heaven not taking their eyes off of me. Lunch was like a nightmare everyone was looking at me and whispering something to the person sitting next to them. I finally let of a sigh of relief when the last period bell had rung and I sprinted out to Emily’s car. Then BAM papers started flying everywhere. If I had stopped to think about it than that moment would have been super romantic with the papers slowly falling to the floor with me lost in the guy’s eyes but I wasn’t in the mood for that.
“Can’t you watch were you’re going?” said a rude guy's voice I was in no mood to talk to so I apologized and walked around him, apparently he didn’t like that and grabbed my arm before I could even move two steps. That’s when I looked up in no state for this and was about to yell when I saw a pair of ocean blue eyes and I knew who it was. Shane Carter.
“Oh it’s orphan girl!” he said with a smirk.
“Are you blind now too?”
This pushed it too far and my fight or flight instincts kicked in and when they do I usually take the first option and fight.
“Who the hell do you think you’re calling an orphan and blind?”
“Aren’t you the girl whose parents died, poor baby,” he said with a pout.
“What the hell is your problem I apologized for bumping into you which was clearly a mistake, yet you still act like the asshole you are any reason you brought up my parents into a conversation that doesn’t have anything to do with it! Now,” I said as I yanked my arm free, “It looks like you have a lot of picking up to do so have a good day,” and I left with him standing there with his mouth wide open. I turned around and said, “Close your mouth before a fly goes into it,” and sprinted for my life when I saw him coming after me.
I finally made it to the parking lot with him on my tail and saw Emily standing there by her car. I started waving like crazy telling her to get in the car and start it, she did this as soon as I said it. I ripped open the passenger’s door and jumped in right when Shane reached the car. Emily reversed the car and started speeding away and you could faintly hear Shane yell, I’ll get you back orphan girl!” Which made me crack up.
“What the hell Elena why was he chasing you?” Emily asked glancing over at me, after catching my breath I told her the whole story and by the end of it she was laughing like there’s no tomorrow as well. Can’t believe I’m saying this but Shane was the first one to make me laugh after the accident, that’s something I wasn’t expecting to happen.
