Chapter 21 Skipping:

I ran out the room and towards my locker. I quickly get my stuff and head to class trying to ignore all the whispering about me.

I walked into history and sat down at a desk it was too early for class so I was the only one there. A little while later I hear footsteps.

“There you are,” I hear someone say with relief.

I look up and see its Jake.

“I heard what happened,” he said slowly while he walked to me.

“Yeah I’m pretty sure the whole school heard by now,” I say.

“That was really rude of her, nothing’s wrong with you staying with Shane and I know he didn’t want you there.” Jake said catching my attention.

“You didn’t?” I asked.

“Yup, remember I was there when he yelled at you. He’s no hero, Mrs. Carter is. Just don’t let Sabrina get to you. She’s just pissed you’re living with him and not her.” I look at Jake for the first time till he walked in and smiled.

I get up from my chair and give him a big hug.

“Thank you,” I say into his shoulder.

“For what?” he asked

“Everything, for understanding, for being sweet, and for making me smile,” I say backing away to look at him.

He smiled and said, “That’s what friends are for.”

My smile slowly dropped from my face.

“Yeah, you’re the only one beside me and Shane who knows the truth. Everyone else is whispering about how amazing he is. It’s so annoying! How am I supposed to go through the whole day hearing that?” I say sadly.

“Hmm…I have an idea,” Jake said after a while.

“What?” I asked.

“Pick a number from 1 through 5,” Jake said happily.

“Jake what-.”

“Just pick!” Jake said cutting me off midsentence.

“Fine 3.”

“Great choice,” he said with a smile.

“What’s 3?” I asked.

“Well… I’d rather just show you.” He said taking my hand.

He started walking out of class and out the school.

“Jake, where are we going? Are we skipping school?”

“Yes, and it’s going to be worth it,” he said opening the passenger door for me. I quickly got in and he closed the door.

He walked to the other side, got in, and started the car. He drove off to the street.

I saw everything pass by really quickly through the window. I was completely lost in my thoughts so I didn’t realize we stopped until Jake touched my shoulder.

“We're here,” he said happily. I look out the window and see sand and the ocean.

“What are we doing at a beach?” I asked.

“You picked it, number 3, remember.”

“So number 3 was the beach, great.”

“Come on lets go the weather is beautiful today.”

That’s true the weather was great and it’s probably too late to do back to school. I open the door and walk out. The beach was almost empty but that’s probably because it’s Monday morning.

Jake walks over to my side and we walk up the stairs toward the beach. We picked a nice spot close to the water and sat down.
