*Chapter Fourteen*
The days were passing by like minutes; it was already in the middle of July. This saddened Kimberly as she knew that Nick would be leaving soon for Canada. She tried not to think about it, but the thought often came into her mind. She knew it would be difficult, but not this difficult. What would happen with him gone? Would he forget all about her? Find a new girl? She squeezed her eyes shut as she could feel tears threatening to emerge. She was in love with him. So in love it frightened her...she was terrified about the outcome. How hurt she was going to become. She craved him; craved him more than a fat child craved a piece of chocolate cake. She loved the way he would touch her, how he would caress her skin with such care. He filled the emptiness she had within her and she didn't want that to go away. He made her feel so alive. With him gone would all that disappear?
Sharon has asked her to work a night shift once a week. She didn't mind. Time went by quickly, but it was when Greg would stay late in the building when it was a problem. Whenever she felt uncomfortable, she would text Nick and like a Knight in Shining Armor, he would be there. He would linger in the parking lot. What would happen after he was in Canada? Would Greg go back to being the pervert she was used to? She tried not to think about it. She knew all she would have to do was tell Sharon and he would be gone. As much as she told herself not to dwell on it, she still couldn't help it.
Nick would be gone in three days...that was only seventy-two hours. She inhaled deeply as she once again could feel the tears make their way to her eyes. She felt the liquid roll down her cheek and she quickly wiped it away and looked back into the fogged mirror. She had just gotten out of the shower; a towel wrapped around her wet body. Nick called her two hours earlier and told her he made plans for them. She had absolutely no idea what he was arranging, but she could feel butterflies flow within her as she thought about it. She loved when he would surprise her with little things.
Lately all they've been doing was hanging over Angel's. It seemed the only way they could spend actual time together was at her place. They could actually relax; lounge on her couch and watch TV without worrying about anyone intruding. Vicky was a major problem in their relationship, Kimberly had to constantly lie where she was going and who she was with. She still thought she was seeing a guy named Dave from her work. Nick never liked to bring her back to his hotel and since he lived over six hours away, his place was out of the question, unless they flew. Angel's apartment was their only option. She was more than willing to open her home to them, which she was grateful for. Kimberly never asked why he didn't bring her back to his hotel; she didn't need to. She knew AJ loathed her. She still had no idea why. What did she ever do that was so wrong? Was it from the first time they met? Was he still upset about that?
She walked into her bedroom and opened her closet and began to go through her clothes. She had absolutely no idea where she was going or doing. How was she to know what to wear? What if they went golfing and she wore a dress? Or wore slacks when they were going to some formal party? She grabbed her phone and texted her boyfriend.
Sooo what are we doing? Lol
She smirked when she got a response almost immediately.
It looks as though you're just going to have to wait and see ;-)
She shook her head and softly laughed. He was being so vague. She loved being surprised, but she wanted to be appropriately dressed for the occasion.
Well aren't we being sneaky ;P What am I supposed to wear?
And within a moment her phone vibrated. She glanced to it and snorted at his response and uttered, "Yeah, in his dreams."
