I follow the bloody footprints onto the elevator and trace my finger on the bloody button leading to level 18.i fold my hands onto my sweatshirt and try to assume a nonchalant demeanor despite being alone in the steel contraption.

Shortly after it begins its vertical ascent  its halts sharply. The gears within the shaft invisible to me grind to an ominous stillness.Red florescent light floods the tiny space from above as emergency alarms go off in the whole building followed by the unmistakable sound of a stampede.

Before i can give into a definitive course of action, or in this case, a panic inspired reaction, the trapdoor on the roof of the elevator slides open and gloved hands pull me effortlessly into the black void of the shaft amid my screams of terror.
