(Y/N)'s POV

"So you're saying it isn't your fault at all, huh?" Niall shouted, the anger was evident in his voice.

"No, I mean, I know it is my fault, but I'm... Just, please, let me explain?" My voice remained calm, not wanting to make the situation worse.

"Fine, go on with your little story then." He folded his arms and leaned against the wall.

"Can you at least calm down first? Stop giving me that glare." I pleaded.

"Can you please just say what you wanted to say?" He mocked me emotionlessly, probably feeling both infuriated and annoyed.

I sighed and grabbed my iPhone, showing it to him, "Here, look. It's dead, and my Mum phone doesn't save your phone number... That's why I can't call you and inform you about what happened." I kept my voice as calm as possible, knowing that it will help me think of the right words to say.

He nodded his head, but he still looked unconvinced, "Right... So? Where were you?" This time, his voice sounded a little more gentle than before.

"Okay, so here it goes... I was getting ready for the date, you know, curling my hair and stuff. Then my Mum dashed into my room, saying that our neighbour, Zayn, was sent to--"

"Hold on," He thought for a while, "So you forgot about our date because of that Zayn guy?"

"Listen first, I haven't even finished my sentence... Zayn was sent to the hospital because he was critically injured, according to my Mum. She started to panic, and insisted that we rush to the hospital. Mum had regarded Zayn like her own son, so it is understandable if she feels worried. Also, he was my best friend since we were really young. We're still close now, despite the fact that we went to different schools. Anyway, Mum's car was sent to be repaired, so I have to send her there and it will look bad if I don't visit him at all. When Mum and I visited him, he wasn't really as badly injured as I thought he was. Mum was just being too worried."

"Right, what happened next? Let me guess. You spent hours talking to him and didn't even think about me."

Part of it was true, but I knew I couldn't just nod and let him think that I didn't care about him, right?

I was silent for a couple of seconds, thinking of the right words to say, "I wanted to call you but my phone's dead. And, you know that feeling when you reunited with your best friend after being away for so long?"

"That you forgot about your own boyfriend? Even if I meet my long lost best friend, I wouldn't ditch my girlfriend for him or her."

I sighed. This conversation isn't going very well. "I didn't ditch you, I just..."

"Forgot about it all?"

I didn't reply. A pang of guilt took over me. I gazed on the wooden floor, not wanting to make any eye contact with him Why is he making this so difficult?

"Alright, now you're not talking. Does it mean I'm right? You forgot about me?"

"Niall, I'm really exhausted now. Alright, just telling you, I care a lot about you. What happened earlier was unintentional. I didn't mean to hurt you or anything, okay?" Without seeing the need to wait for his reply, I simply walked out of the room.

I didn't want to continue this conversation anymore, I was too exhausted and it's going nowhere. Niall was still frustrated with me and I couldn't make him understand.
