Alec: Ave, what happened? Avery, pull yourself together and tell me
She told him
Alec: He might just be messing with you
Avery: He is messing with me
Alec: You don't realize how menacing you are most of the time, getting a chance to mess with you is a rare occurrence. Most guys won't resist. Why are you so out of sorts around him? You lost all confidence there. This is so unlike you
Avery: Because I have no more control over what happens. I've lost them. It appears they never respected me in the first place and I don't know what to do Al, I'm out of my depths here. I've never been good at dealing with others. You know that. I fear something bad is happening, and I'm powerless to stop it
Alec: You must do what you can. Stop feeling so helpless and start acting. It's the right thing to do and you will feel better
Avery: You're right. I just wish there was something else we could do instead of watching. Where are you Dryden?.. They never even mention her anymore. Have they just forgotten about her?!
Alec: It is strange that at least no one from her faction is worrying about her return
-----------------------------------------------------------After what they said to each other, Archer and Avery seemed to avoid talking to each other but always watching one another
He still hasn't slipped, and Avery was beginning to doubt herself
Before their muttered fore and back, he had tried to win her over with his charm and gentle manners, but she rebuffed him at each and every turn
She just wished she had other people helping her. It looked like all of their members were on Archer's side, even Natalie who was as enamored with him as the rest
Avery only had Alec on her side, and she was certain that if Dryden was there, she would have stayed by her as well. She really missed her
She even wished that Natalie and Alec would resolve their differences and Natalie would be on their side, that's how desperate she was for more help
Because no matter how they went about it, they found nothing sinister about Archer, except how he was able to manipulate all the others and draw them to him, well, in Avery's opinion at least
It continued like that for a while, until one day they found themselves surrounded by others. People they didn't know. Mostly pure bloods
It appears they have been ambushed, and Archer but a distraction. While Avery closely watched him, he had some of his newly subdued friends open the gates for his real people
She was shocked to find most of her previous colleagues surrender without a fight, while she and Alec fought harder than ever
Everyone finally got to see her Gorgon and gargoyle properties. But they were too many for her, and she was tiring fast
Alec almost got run down and she was too busy to save him
Avery: Alec!
She was scared she'll lose the only family she had left, but Natalie bashed Alec's opponent with a metal club
She was panting heavily
She hugged him hard
Avery sighed in relief: Al, take her and go
Alec protested
Avery: Please Al. I'll catch up whenever I can. We can't win this way. This battle is already lost. Go! I don't want to lose the only family I have left
Alec: Ave! I can't lose the last of my family either
They heard the sound of hurried footsteps
Avery: Quick! Go! Promise you'll stay safe. If you find Dryden, tell her everything
Alec: But!
Avery: You know I have a better chance at holding up whoever is coming
She nodded at Natalie who dragged him away
Avery: Keep him safe
Natalie: I will, and Avery, I'm really sorry
Avery nodded
Just as they departed Archer entered the room: Well, there you are..
