Avery took her gargoyle form every training session with Archer, and while it helped, he still had to hold back. He could never give his all, but he was forced to hold back less and less, for there were eyes everywhere, and the King sometimes dropped veiled threats

Avery got much stronger, but she was still no match for a dragon shifter, much less a royal one

Archer was despairing, to the delight of his king

Avery kept plotting her escape, but the dragon camp was very well gaurded, and she was never without eyes upon her, either Jaera or any of her underlings were always watching, not to mention the well meaning but ever present Lily, whom Avery didn't want to drag into her mess

She was at a loss.. But one day, help came unexpected

She was suddenly called to the clearing before the dragon King, whome she felt was angry

He certainly didn't look pleased, although it was hard to ascertain with his serpentine features

He addressed Archer, who was summoned as well: The gargoyles have come for your charge

Archer frowned

Dragon King: She will leave with them

He definitely was not happy, his enjoyment was cut short

There were a group of strangers Avery just noticed, a tall, broad man came forward. His hair was jet black, eyes brown

He bowed to the King, and when he nodded his great head, the man approached her: Avery.. You are to come with us

She straightened her spine: At what grounds?

He raised an eyebrow, the expression was do like hers, there was something tugging at her insides that she couldn't discern: We are your people

She crossed her arms: And? I do not know you

He sighed: Child.. I'm your father

Avery: What's your proof? And why now? You haven't cared before

He replied: I couldn't find you.. Look, this is not the place nor time for such a conversation

She glared at him in defiance

He sighed: So like Annie.. No wonder, she's the one who raised you..

She dropped her arms, eyes round: What did you say?

He gave her a tender smile: Little bat..

She relaxed slightly

He went on: Do you want to stay here and be their slave?

She Shook her head: But what about the others?

Man: For the time being we cannot do anything for them

He offered his hand, she took it. She gave a final glance to Lily and Amelia

She wanted so bad to look at Archer, but feared the repercussions. She wished right then that she was telepathic..

Out of the corner of her eye she saw him, he looked relieved and sad at the same time

She was happy he was rid of his trial, but she feared the next time they met, they would be on opposite sides yet again, and this time he wouldn't be able to hold back..

Avery left with the gargoyles, promising herself that if she didn't like it, at least escaping them might be easier than the dragons, and she wouldn't be controlled, that she had sworn to Annie before she died, and to herself
