Avery: Well then, do your best, or worst

She smirked

Jaera attacked without warning, and Avery caught a blow to her cheek, she avoided only a bit of the strike's power, but she still got hit, Jaera was fast

It went on like this, Jaera attacking and Avery dodging. She didn't give her an opening to fight back

Avery had enough of dodging her, she left herself open, and just as Jaera attacked, thinking she had the upper hand, Avery caught her wrist, twisting it and turning the tide on her

She managed a few blows before Jaera found her focus again and dodged

They were almost evenly matched. Avery didn't have much of a formal training in combat, but Jaera clearly did, and yet, Avery's gargoyle heritage gave her an edge, even without morphing into one. Gargoyles had naturally more agile and stronger bodies than most

Avery was by no means bad at fighting, so while their fight continued longer than anyone thought the training session would last, she still managed to land the final blow and take her opponent to the ground

Jaera was seething. She'd just lost to the new girl..

They were both beaten up, one of Jaera's minions tried to help her up, but she shrugged her off, got up on her own and headed towards the infirmary

Lily latched on to Avery's arm: That was so cool!

Avery smiled at her weakly

Lily: No one has ever been able to defeat Jaera before! You were great. Where did you learn to fight like that?

Avery shrugged: I just have some experience

Lily: You're all beaten up. We should go to Amelia's

Avery: after I eat something. I'm starving, and it's probably better to avoid Jaera right now

Lily: Are you scared? You didn't seem so before

Avery shook her head: It's not about being scared or not. It's just not wise. I don't want to antagonize her further. She seems do dislike me enough as it is

Lily: It's just that she's his majesty's favorite. She's probably scared she'd lose that place if she lost to you

Avery snorted: She really shouldn't be worried about that. He will never like me..

Lily looked uncomfortable

Avery clapped her hands: Now, my friend, won't you lead me where I can eat something

She winked

Lily smiled: I'll enter with you. Cook likes me

Avery's eyes crinkled: Who wouldn't?

Lily looked subdued: The others don't..

Avery sighed: They don't like much I guess. Don't worry about it. The only thing on their minds is probably survival. They think their best chances are in serving here

Lily frowned: Don't you?

Avery cleared her throat: I'm not from around here. Where I come from, we live differently and I just can't accept life here, at least for me

Lily: Well, you won't be able to lake them think like you, so please don't mention anything like this in front of them. They'll tell on you and it won't end well..

She gripped her hand: I like you Avery so please promise you won't do anything. You're the only real friend I've got around here..

Avery gave her a wobbly smile and only said she'd do her best
