You woke up as the sun was rising, and you were exhausted. You remembered everything that happened the previous day and groaned. Today you were going to be given a punishment for going out to find Drift when you weren't supposed to.

"(y/n)?" called Abstrakt's voice from outside the room. "John asked me to get you."

"Coming," you said wearily. You pulled yourself out of bed and fixed your appearance so you would look decent. You walked out of the room to see Abstrakt leaning on the wall outside of the door. You yelped, startled. "Don't scare me like that!"

"Sorry, I just thought I should stay with you," Abstrakt replied softly. Wait... The way he was talking to you and had been treating you. Was it possible that he had a crush on you?

"Alright, I forgive you," you sighed. You decided not to worry about it.

"I don't know what you did, but John sounded annoyed when he told me to go and get you," Abstrakt said.

"Long story," you said shortly. Abstakt decided not to say anything, which was a good choice on his part.

You made your way downstairs.

"Oh, he wants you down in the underground base," Abstrakt said quickly. "Now, I have to go because Teknique and I are planning on hitting Tilted Towers again." You were sad you couldn't go with them, but you accepted things as they were. You made a stupid choice and now you were paying for it. You walked downstairs, excited. Sure, you were about to be in a lot of trouble, but you finally could see what the underground base looked like.

When you got downstairs, your jaw dropped. They had a stash of legendary guns in the back, and a map in the center of the room. There were computers and control stations around the edges of the room. Potions, med-kits, grenades, and more useful stuff were displayed on the shelves. It truly was epic.

"Looks like you finally made it down here," John sighed. You turned to him. Carbide was working on something down some stairs, but you didn't pay attention to what.

"Sorry, sir," you said politely.

"So, your punishment isn't going to be too bad," John started. "What I'm assigning you to do is take the night shift for awhile."

"What night shift?" you asked.

"You will be down here for the next week watching the surveillance cameras that are set up around the map to make sure there isn't any trouble going on," John said. "It's a newly added thing we have since Omega attacked a few days ago." You nodded, wincing as you recalled your run-in with Omega. If he hadn't appeared, Drift would probably still be with you.

"Alright," you replied shortly.

"I want you to start tonight. I suggest you get rest before the night shift, because you'll be exhausted," John said. You nodded and left the room to go back upstairs. You didn't know what to do for the rest of the day.

"I knew you were going to slip up one day," sneered Valor as you walked upstairs. You turned to glare at her. She was sitting on the couch in a very feminine way, with one leg crossed over the other.

"Not in the mood, Valor," you huffed.

"Look, I think we started on bad terms," Valor said. "I tried not to be rude."

"You did a bad job at that," you said sarcastically.

"I don't want to be enemies," Valor said forcefully. "I think we would work together well. I don't have any ill intentions. I just want to protect the people on the island, just like you, John Wick, and Drift." You winced when you heard Drift's name.

"Don't talk about him," you spat.

"I knew Drift before you came here," Valor replied quickly. "He and I were... friends." She hesitated on the word, making you suspicious.

"Okay."

"He and I had a few missions together when he was the new guy. I know what it's like to lose someone that means a lot," Valor explained.

"What do you mean?" you asked innocently.

"I've seen the way you look at him," Valor said bluntly.

"How?" You tilted your head in confusion.

"It was the way I used to look at my ex-boyfriend before he died," Valor said, her voice sharp. You looked down at the ground.

"I'm sorry to hear that," you said. "So maybe you do know how I feel."

"I didn't mean to be so mean when you first got here," Valor changed the topic. "You reminded me of the old me before he died." You nodded and put a hand on her shoulder.

"I think we could be friends, if you really want," you smiled. Valor grinned.

"That would be great," she replied.

"I have to get some sleep, because I have the night shift on watching the cameras. Maybe we can get to know each other sometime," you said, and waved as you walked back upstairs. Sure you only woke up under an hour ago, but more sleep wouldn't hurt.

----

Eventually, you woke up. It was sunset. You managed to sleep through a whole day. You felt great, though. You needed to catch up on some sleep.

You walked down into the underground base and you were surprised when you noticed there was nobody else there. They all either retired to their rooms for the night or were on different missions. You sighed sadly and walked over to a computer. You took a seat and started flipping through the cameras. It was interesting.

On one camera, you saw two noobs trying to take each other out with harvesters. You watched until one faded into light, meaning they were game-ended.

On another, you saw someone shooting themself across Loot Lake on a shopping cart with a drum gun. You didn't understand how that was possible.

On a different camera, someone was driving an ATK through a fiery hoop, managing to survive while the ATK caught on fire.

Nothing that the team needed to take care of was happening. It was all stuff the police department could take care of. Nothing else interesting was happening, so you grew bored.

You made a game with a loose screw to see how much you could twist it back in and out without the screw falling out. The cameras switched themselves every minute.

Something caught your eye. You saw a familiar blonde mohawk in the Paradise Palms camera. Your attention snapped to the screen, and you saw something that made your heart drop.

Drift was pointing a gun directly at the guy who had almost gotten you killed the previous day.
