You immediately jumped to your feet.
"John!" you shouted at the top of your lungs, terrified. Was Drift really about to kill someone? John ran downstairs instantly.
"I was asleep, this better be an emergency," John grumbled.
"Drift is about to kill someone!" you exclaimed. John took a look at the screen, and sure enough, Drift was pointing a gun at the guy's head, saying something. Sadly, there was no way you could hear what he was saying.
"We better hurry there right now," John stated.
"Can I do it myself?" you asked.
"Why?" John questioned.
"He really trusts me. He'll definitely listen to me," you replied. "He doesn't seem to be in the right state of mind." John nodded.
"Be careful, and bring a gun with you just in case," John advised. You rolled your eyes as you realized John sounded like a father.
"He won't hurt me," you assured.
"As you said, he's not in the right state of mind. He could do anything," John snapped. "Do as I say, and bring a gun." You nodded and took a pistol off of a shelf and rushed outside. Thankfully, there was an extra golf cart so you could take it to get to Paradise Palms faster.
The drive went by quickly since you were determined to get to Drift. He was about to kill someone! Sure, that someone almost killed you, but it still wasn't right to just sit there and watch as a life is taken away. Especially by someone as kind as Drift.
You ran into the city to the location on the camera.
"Stop!" you shouted. Drift had just kicked the guy to the ground. You didn't know why it was taking so long for Drift to kill the guy, but you were thankful he hadn't. Drift jumped back.
"(y-y/n)? W-What're you doing here?" Drift stammered nervously.
"I should ask you the same thing," you yelled. "Run." The guy scrambled to his feet and ran off. He said thanks as he ran.
"He almost killed you! He needed a bit of justice," Drift said.
"Not justice by torturing and killing him!" you insisted. "Drift, what are you doing? This isn't like you."
"You wouldn't understand!" Drift bursted out, his voice filled with emotion.
"Try me," you hissed.
"I can't lose someone that I care about as much as you!" Drift exclaimed. "If you had died, I would have been broken."
"Well I didn't," you snapped.
"But you almost did and it would've been my fault. So I ran away to get stronger so I can protect you in the future," Drift explained.
"By killing anyone who never even hurt me?" you asked, unamused. Drift flushed in embarrassment.
"He probably did horrible things," Drift said.
"Well, that's for the police to handle," you said. "Come back home with me and we can go back to normal."
"I-I can't," Drift stammered.
"Why?"
"I will just fail you again," Drift said. Because of the mask covering half of his face, it was hard to tell his emotions. You were able to see his eyes, and that was all you needed to see to notice that he was afraid. Sad. Hurt. You wanted to reach out to him and tell him it was alright. Your heart wrenched painfully.
"No you won't," you smiled reassuringly.
"I'm sorry," Drift said. He shifted his gun, and you whipped out your pistol. Drift was just putting his gun away. He looked at your pistol, hurt. "You don't trust me..." You pointed your pistol away, ashamed.
"I-I'm sorry, it was just my instincts," you sighed sadly.
"I can't believe you thought that I would actually hurt you!" shouted Drift. You flinched. "You really have no idea how I feel."
"What do you mean?" you asked. You didn't like this. The sweet, kind, and childish Drift was gone. Instead was an unstable and potentially guy.
"It doesn't matter now," Drift said coldly. "I'm going to leave. Please, don't look for me. It'll hurt the both of us."
"W-Why?" you replied, your voice cracking. "I-I care about you."
Drift scoffed. "Prove it."
"But I... I..." you choked on your words. You knew exactly what you wanted to say, but you just couldn't say it. Drift narrowed his eyes at you.
"What? You got nothing to say?" Drift snapped. "Figured. I'm not worth your words anyway." He turned away and started walking away. You stared after him as he disappeared into the darkness. He was gone.
Without warning, a noise escaped your mouth that sounded like a cry and a cough. You fell onto your knees and before you knew it, tears were pouring down your face. You started crying. You brought your hands to your face, grabbing your hair and hiding your face.
You were so close to getting him back, and then you messed it up. You couldn't forgive yourself. You might have saved that guy's life, but you failed to get back what was the most important. Drift.
"But I love you," you said quietly.
