You stared at Oblivion, your jaw dropped in horror. She wasn't telling the truth, right? Lindsay wouldn't betray you like that. You had been friends since childhood and you made up after she acted rotten.
This couldn't be possible. Oblivion had to be playing with your mind.
"I don't believe you," you hissed, regaining your confidence.
"Oh I don't need you to believe me," Oblivion replied. "Maybe you'll believe me once Drift arrives and kills you."
"Even though I doubt that will happen, that doesn't prove Lindsay was the one who convinced him to kill me," you argued. "Drift could never kill anyone."
"AND YET HE KILLED OMEGA!" Oblivion screamed.
You recoiled, surprised by her sudden outburst.
"My life was amazing before you and Drift came around," Oblivion snarled. "Omega and I were in love. And you took that away from me."
Her motive now made sense. You felt immense guilt. Even though what Oblivion was doing was wrong, you understood how she felt. Someone she loved was taken away and she wants revenge by hurting those who killed him.
Maybe in this situation, there was no evil or good. Both sides of this fight had done evil. You and Drift ended the life of someone. Oblivion kidnapped you and possibly found a way to make Drift kill you. The good done in this situation was you and Drift saving the world of Fortnite and Oblivion avenging the life of someone who shouldn't have died.
You understood now. But was it truly justice to ruin the lives of two people, and possibly more? Nicole would miss you, along with your parents. Your friends in the Fortnite world expect you to visit, and will they just remain waiting for something that will never happen? Would they ever find out what Oblivion had done?
"Now, it's my chance to take something from both of you," Oblivion sneered.
From behind Oblivion there was the sound of a metal door opening.
"Oblivion? What'd you call me to this disgusting building for?" called a girl's voice that was all too familar.
Oblivion had told you the truth about Lindsay. Oblivion shook her head and scoffed.
"Quiet down, will you? Your voice is annoying," Oblivion snapped.
Lindsay walked next to Oblivion and looked down at you with an emotionless expression. You felt a wave of sadness. Your friend who you have forgiven multiple times, has betrayed you. She gave you to the enemy to leave you to die. What did you do to her that made her believe you should die?
"Why? Why are you doing this?" you asked, your voice cracking.
"I'm sick and tired of living in your shadow," Lindsay snarled. "You've always outshone me in everything we did! You even took the boy I've been crushing on for years, and I even told you about my feelings!"
She was right, you do remember a time when she told you about her crush on Drift. But still, it wasn't enough to wish death on someone, was it?
"How is that reason enough to want me dead?" you questioned.
"It isn't, but I've always wanted to have someone killed," Lindsay replied, an evil grin etched on her face. "I'll finally have the spotlight for a change. The month you were gone was the best of my life. I was finally noticed! As soon as you came back, the spotlight was on you once again and I was forgotten. Even by Nicole."
She sniffed, about to cry. It almost made you pity her, but considering the circumstances you couldn't bring yourself to care about her.
"But that will change again," Lindsay's grin grew wider. "I'll have the spotlight once and for all, and you will no longer be relevant."
You looked down at the ground. One of your best friends was a psychopath, and it was becoming clearer that maybe Oblivion hadn't lied at all. Maybe Drift really was coming to kill you. Did he no longer love you? What could they possibly tell him to make him hate you so much? Drift was someone who hated the idea of killing anyone. What could you have done to him? Or was he like Lindsay, hiding away a psychopathic side?
Suddenly, Lindsay slapped you hard across the face, making you fall over on your side. Your face burned where she had hit you. She cackled loudly, Oblivion joining her.
"You should see how pathetic you look right now," Lindsay said.
Tears sprung in the corners of your eyes. You thought you could trust Lindsay.
You hoped Drift would come to save you. This thought was the only thing that kept you sane. You wanted to lash out and hurt Lindsay and Oblivion, but your bounds prevented you from doing so.
"Drift will save me, I know he will," you hissed. Oblivion and Lindsay both seemed shocked at your defiance even in these circumstances.
Suddenly, there was a loud crash as one of the walls caved in. Dust and debris flew everywhere, causing you to close your eyes so nothing would get into them.
As you reopened your eyes and the debris settled, you saw a figure in the hole in the wall.
Oblivion chortled. "You were saying?"
Nobody was going to save you.
We are in the endgame.
