Varian's third year in prison had long since started as he made his way through many apologies to everyone he could think of. It had started with the queen. Next he apologised to Rapunzel and Eugene. Rapunzel was easy to forgive him after all this time and he thanked her for the good food she had brought him for so long. Eugene had simply sighed and said "as long if you never purposely endanger anyone anymore" and softly smiled.

Then he apologised to the captain of the guards and the guards involved. The captain just gave him a quick nod. The guards especially Stan and Pete had given him a soft smile and whispered to him that to their opinion he had been in prison way too long.

The queen smiled when she heared that Varian was appologising to everyone. Though the king didn't seem to care that much for the now young man's appologie.

"What's wrong dear?" Queen Arianna asked her husband. "What good will those appologies of that kid do?" He wondered. "What do you mean?" "What I mean is how do we know that he won't go back on trying to destroy us once we release him?" The queen smiled. "I've been watching him from a distance for a while know dear and all I know is that even if his appologies are not worth any gold the are sincere. I do not believe he'll become evil again once you set him free" Arianna explained.

King Fredric sighed. A knock on the door. The king went to open it himself. There was a guard requesting the kings presence at Varian's prison. The king raised a surprised eyebrow. He gave his wife a small look before she urged him to go down there. The king followed the guard into the dungeon. Varian sat on the bed, Ruddiger in his lap. "You requested my presence?" The king spoke with a deep menacing voice.

"I did" Varian spoke quietly. "You also want to appologise to me don't you?" "In fact I do." "And what worth does that have for me" the king asked. He new the question was mean, but he wanted to test Varian, he wanted to know if he still had the arrogance that he had when he endangered the country and royal family or not.

Varian's shoulders slumped a little. "None, my appologies are worth nothing, I know that very well, yet I still wanr to appologise. It might sound selfish, but if I don't I would not be able to live with myself once I'm free." "And you think you'll be free soon?" The king asked. "I don't know, but a man is allowed to have some hope, right?" The king couldn't dissagree with that. He himself had hope for 18 years that his daughter would return and she did. Why would this young man not be allowed to have some hope.

"Well on with that appologie of yours then" king Fredric said. Varian took a deep breath. "I'm sorry." He paused as he planned what he wanted to say in his head without it becoming a complete mess. "I'm sorry, I should not have attacked your kingdom endangered your family, friends and guards. I regret what I did. Though even with saying all this after a few years, I can perfectly understand that you would not believe me."

"You're right, I'm not sure if I can believe you, but I can take you appologie in consideration" King Fredric spoke now with a somewhat softer tone in his voice. Varian nodded slowly. "Thank you, your majesty I'd very much apriciate that." The king nodded and left without a word.

"And dear? How did it go?" Queen Arianna curiously asked. "Hmm perhaps better than I expected, but I still don't trust him!" King Fredric exlaimed. Queen Arianna smiled softly. "Of course, but this is a start you know." King Fredric nodded. "Was I the last person he needed to appologise too?" "No he still needs to appologise to Cassandra." "Rapunzel's lady-in-waiting?" The queen nodded.

"Why on earth would that take so long?" King Fredric asked surprised. "There are deeper feelings involved concerning Cassandra" queen Arianna explained. "Oh like that." "Exactly."

Cassandra was lying in bed thinking, not something she would usually do. Not that she never thought things through, but usually she'd out her thoughts and emotions on the training grounds.

"Why... he has appologised to everyone by now everyone except me, does he hate me now. I can understand that, the kid had a crush on me and I rudely broke his heart, but after all this time?" There was a soft knock on the door. "Come in Raps." Rapunzel walked in Cassandra's room. "Hey Cass, what are you doing?" Rapunzel asked. "Just thinking a bit." "What about?" "Why Varian still hasn't appologised to me, yet he has to everyone else even my dad!"

"Are you jealous?" Rapunzel teased. "No! Of course not! I just want to know why? Does he hate me that much?" Cassandra wondered.  "I don't really think that's it, but I'm sure he'll come around, maybe it was because you guys were kinda close?" Rapunzel innocently said. Cassandra nodded. Another knock on the door. "Who is it?" Cassandra asked.

"It's me Pete" the guard answered. "Varian is asking for you." "Finally" Cassandra muttered. She followed the Pete to the dungeons while Rapunzel went back to her room. Cassandra walked into the dungeons and stood in front of Varian's cell. He slowly turned around. "H-hey Cassandra" Varian muttered. "I-I asked you to come down here too uhm" Varian stuttered. Cassandra patiently waited.

"I've been meaning to appologise to you!" Varian almost screamed. "Yes, uhm I'm... I'm... I'm so so sorry that ai hurt you and your father, your friends and home.... I'm just so sorry!" Varian cried.

"I understand, took you a while to say it huh" she smirked. Varian nodded. "And for that I'm sorry too, bht I'm also very thankful!" "Thankful?" Cassandra asked surprised. "Yes, your visits made my imprisonment bareable, you also brough Ruddiger to me and for that I'm really thankfull" Varian explained.

Cassandra nodded. "Okay I get it." She made way to the door. "Thank you Varian for Appologising and you're welcome." she smiled softly as she closed the door behind her.

Varian slumped down on the bed. "You did it Varian! You appologised to her! Did you see that Ruddiger?" The raccoon just lazily looked up at Varian when hearing it's name. Varian smiled softly. "I know she'll never be mine, not even when I'm released from prison, but a man is allowed to hope, no?"
