Since Varian's return he had done nothing else besides working on old and new inventions and making new concoctions. He had missed working hard like this and enjoyed himself a lot. Though his thoughts kept wondering to Cassandra, which caused distractions and small explosions from time to time.

He would give anything to get closer to her anything at all. A small knock on his door. "Come in" he called as he removed his goggles. It was princess Rapunzel, no surprise, ever since his release she came to visit him to see his new inventions.

"Hey Varian, what's up?" "Nothing much" he softly smiled. "You made something new?" She curiously asked. Varian nodded. He walked to the other side of the lab and grabbed a beaker with a pinkish substance. He walked back to the princess and showed the concoction. "Awesome! What is it?" She asked. "Please excuse me" Varian said. He bent down and made a rip in Rapunzel's dress. "Hey!" He held the ripped part together and poured a little of the pinkish substance on the rip and it repaired itself!

"Wow! That's like magic!" Varian sighed. "No it's alchemy." Rapunzel giggled. "Of course." Unfortunately it only works if the substance colour matches the fabric colour exactly. "That must be hard... Wait did you make it after my dress for me?" "Sure" Varian muttered. He grabbed two tea cups and passed one with a sweet aroma to Rapunzel. "Why would you make it for me? I'd expect you'd make it for Cassandra" she smiled.

Varian almost chocked in his drink. "Excuse me?" "Hmm nothing" Rapunzel muttered and sipped from her tea. Varian sighed. He couldn't possibly make something this simple for Cassandra. He'd need something as grand as his Cassandrium to impress her. Rapunzel glanced at Varian. "You know if you keep inventing things like these, good things, it might bring you closer to what you seek in time."

"Since when does the princess of Corona own such wisdom?" Varian asked raising a brow. "It's been quite a while since we first met Varian" Rapunzel smiled. But Varian looked a bit gloomy. "Yeah I know" he muttered.

Rapunzel finished her tea and made way for the door. "Oh, Varian can I take that with me?" She asked innocently pointing at the fabric repairing concoction. "Sure I made it after your dress so you're pretty much the only one that can use it" Varian said as he put a cork on the glass bottle. He handed it to Rapunzel who smiled brightly. "Thank you Varian!" She exlaimed and went back to the castle.

She ran into her mother's room as soon as she arrived. "Mother look at this, Varian made it!" Startled by that name the King of Corona immidiately came to check out the new concoction and potentional danger. Rapunzel
grabbed the hem of her dress and made quite a large rip in it. The queen looked surprised at her daughter, but let her continue the performance. Rapunzel opened the bottle and held the ripped parts together. "Watch out!" The king exlaimed as Rapunzel poured a few drops of the liquid on her dress which repaired itself.

"What's wrong dad?" Rapunzel asked. "Nothing" the king sighed relieved. "That's amazing Rapunzel!" her mother exlaimed. "And you said Varian made it?" "Yes he did!" Rapunzel smiled brightly. "Interesting." "I'm going to show this to Eugene and Cassandra!" Rapunzel said excitedly and ran off.

"Well?" Ariana asked her husband. "Ugh." "What? So far before and now after his imprisonment he's shown to be very useful mostly" Arianna smiled. "Yet he could still be dangerous" king Fredrick sighed. Silence followed, but it was suddenly broken by the queen. "I have an idea!" "What?" "Let's employ him as the royal alchemist!" Arianna exlaimed. "That's absurd and not even a real job" Fredrick said.

"You're the king you can make it a real job, besides the kingdom could use some new inventions and this way you can keep an eye on him and he can finish his business with lady Cassandra it's perfect!" Arianna smiled. "It's madness, but you do have a point." The king walked a few circles around the room thinking about what his wife had said. "Fine let's employ him what harm can it do" he said. His queen smiled at him happily and called for the guards.

"Pete, Stan let the maids prepare a room on the first floor and a room in the basement for our new employee" "Yes your majesty!" "And let the captain of the guard get Varian for me, not agrassively ask him politely I'm just asking for his presense." The guards looked confused at eachother. "Uhm yes your highness" they said a little less confident as they walked off. "How are you so sure he'll say yes to this offer?" King Fredrick asked. His wife just giggled. "Don't worry he will, this is an offer he just can't decline."

A rough few knocks on the door of Varian's lab distracted him from his research. He sighed as he walked to the door to open it. There in the door opening stood the captain of the guards. Varian flinched and took a few steps back. "W-what are you doing here I've done nothing wrong!" Varian exlaimed. "I am well aware" the captain spoke. "The king has asked for you" "the king? Why?" "Not sure, but I do know that he's not going to arrest you."

"Well that's a relieve" Varian muttered. "Would you please come with us?" The captain asked and pointed at the small carriage. "Of course" Varian said. He walked outside and climbed into the carriage which drove away before he could even sit down properly. They arrived at the castle fairly quickly. Varian was shaking from all the nerves as the guards brought him into the throne room.

"Varian" the king spoke. "Y-yes your highness?" Varian muttered nervously. "How would you like to become the offical royal alchemist and live here in the castle?" The king offered. Varian's eyes widened. "Excuse me?" He said. "You'll be provided with a room and labaratorium and all the things you need to make new inventions for the benefit of Corona." "I uuhh" Varian did not know what to say. The gears in his head were working overtime, though one conclusion became very clear. Something for his own benefit. If he'd be living in the castle he'd be able to see Cassandra every day!

"I- I'll do it!" Varian exlaimed. "Wonderful the guards will bring all the materials from your lab in old Corona here and the maids will show you to your new room." The king said proud.

"Can I show him?" Rapunzel cried who just ran into the great hall.

"Of course" queen Arianna said. Rapunzel smiled, she grabbed Varian by his arm and ran off with him to show him his room. They quickly arrived. It was the first room on the left on the first floor. They walked in and Varian's eyes widened. This room was twice as big as his old house! "It's very impressive" he said. "I know right!" Rapunzel cried.

"What's with all the noise?" Cassandra spoke as she stood in the door opening of her own room. Right accross from Varian's. "Hello Varian" she spoke not cold, not warm either, just like Cassandra. "Hello Cassandra" he muttered. "Varian is the new royal alchemist!" Rapunzel said excited. "So I've heared. Well good luck with that" Cassandra said and closed the door.

Rapunzel turned around and noticed Varian's face had turned red right to his ears. "I'll leave you to check out the room" she giggled and quickly left closing the door behind her. Varian sat down on the king size bed. "A new, job, a new home it was all a bit too overwhelming for Varian. "My room is right accross from Cassandra's" he sighed happily. "What a coincidence."
